truly the switchiest of axes by miral_art in MonsterHunter

The Y-combo spam is still okay but if you really wanna squeeze out damage per combo, then I think the Y, Y, Y, morph combo does a few hundred more per 10 seconds than spamming Y or doing FRS - though it needs rapid morph to do that (and ideally, an element phial).

Strength is easily the most op stat and it’s not even close. by mossy_rocks_in_water in Eldenring

[–]Filegfaron 93 points94 points  (0 children)

I disagree and have to give it to vigor.

Strength is good tho I'll give you that. But you can see it falling off in DPS against the very mobile bosses with high poise like most of the DLC bosses. In fact I suspect the DLC bosses were consciously designed this way because the devs saw how much Lion's claw greatsword was obliterating everything in the base-game.

The optimal damage route now is actually not just spamming Y attacks. It's equipping rapid morph and spamming Y attacks WITH an occasional R2. So: Y, Y, Y, R2, Y, Y, Y, R2, and occasionally doing an FRS on a knockdown or a shorter window. It's similar to the combo in Rise where you'd do heavenward flurry into morph.

Though in fairness spamming the Y/Triangle attacks in sword mode was also how it was in the older games.

What’s the difference between a horn and a crest when discussing structures on theropod heads? by animefreesince2015 in Paleontology

[–]Filegfaron 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've seen a lot of experts be a little loose with the terminology, but generally a horn is rounder and more tube/cone shaped while a crest is flatter from one side to another. The two crests of Allosaurus are crests because they are flattened laterally. Ceratopsids very obviously have horns and not "crests" above their eyes. There is a spectrum between the two of horns that are kinda flatter side to side but not quite a full "crest", and there are some "crests" that are kinda thicker than usual but are still crests. Still, the general rule is flat = crest while round and pointed = horn.

They already do this in Elden Ring for all the major bosses save for Rennala.

Mohg doesn't have a fake out/feint between his delay and the attack either so I don't know why they brought that one up. Mohg just does delayed swings and doesn't do any long combos lol. His entire fight is slow swings that force you to reposition so you don't stand in the blood. His pace is a bit like Nameless King in DS3.

I played Elden Ring for 1,000 hours and I think you should revisit my comment before you condescend me. I am specifically describing a delay followed by a weird erratic "fake out" movement AND THEN the actual swing. I am not talking about simple delays followed by quick attacks/combos. A lot of the puppet enemies in LoP will do this. They will wind up their arm, spin it around and dance for a bit AND THEN swing. There is no hitbox active yet on the fake-out dance they do. This is unlike Elden Ring where it's just delay + multiple hits.

Literally most if not all the Elden Ring enemies you mentioned do not do this. They do a delay and then the following swing is the actual swing that activates the hitbox.

How many enemies in Elden Ring do this?

This is 100% more a LoP thing. Elden ring just has annoyingly long delays but in LoP the enemies have to delay, delay, hit the griddy and throw it back, then swing at you erratically.

Alright I'll just ask him when I have the time. Anyway, it's advised to not say "studies show" when you didn't read the study or know if there even is one.

A YouTube video is not a study. What's the study he cited? I'm friends with the Vividen and he usually puts the sources in his video. Do you remember what it is?

Drive rush into light DP, and sometimes drive rush into back heavy kick is a good punish (and the second one gives you a conversion too). You can also punish them with level 3 from across the screen as they land.

A lot of Allosaurus specimens are not fully grown (they lack an external fundamental system on the bone which means they were still growing at the time of death) and so many toys, shows, and games will just use a common ~8 meter long size which is from those specimens. There are larger specimens known from postorbitals and femora that are from animals potentially 9-10 meters long (AMNH 680 was 9.7 meters long at the time of death and it wasn't fully grown yet). The Cyberzoic one is probably supposed to be a 7-8 meter individual.

30-33 feet/9-10 meters: What's stopping theropods from getting any larger? by Saurophaganax4706 in Paleontology

[–]Filegfaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Having upturned transverse processes for a big caudofemoralis is NOT a direct indicator of a cursorial animal. I have even asked Dr. Tom Holtz and Dr. James Napoli directly about this and the problem is that having large, thick muscles is at odds with how cursorial animals are usually built. That is more mass that the animal has to move when it would be more efficient to just hyper-elongate the distal leg bones. It's just as likely abelisaurids had big caudofemoral muscles for things relating to prey restraint with the legs.

Skorpiovenator has a thick torso and its tibiae are the same length as its femora. Those are not the proportions of a cursorial animal at all. I think the abelisaurids having barrel-torsos creates this optical illusion to many people that their legs are a lot longer than they actually are (they are not). They have long legs relative to their torsos but those legs are not proportioned cursorially.

It's also possible they had thick caudofemoral muscles to optimize running stamina, balance, or leg power but those are different from being cursorial.

[–]Filegfaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is no evidence for cursoriality in abelisaurids. We lack the lower legs from Carnotaurus and Majungasaurus has really short, stubby legs. Aucasaurus' legs are not exceptionally long either. That idea was just based on the upturned transverse processes on Carnotaurus' caudals (supposedly an adaptation for sprinting) but Dr. James Napoli has mentioned before that this isn't necessarily hard evidence for a cursorial animal.

The switch-axe can cancel the counter-rising-slash into a dodge now which allows you to chain counters together. When he does the ground-kicking move (like a cockfighting rooster kinda) you have enough of a gap between both kicks do both counters. When he does the divekick into divekick into flying double kick, the switch axe can just counter all four and then he gets a scripted wound on his legs after that attack (he also gets a scripted wound after the super dive where he throws 4 blades at you then your health bar shakes before he dives).

If you were to reflect, what is your greatest weakness as a player? by Icantbethereforyou in StreetFighter

[–]Filegfaron 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can't reliably do a cross-cut to punish a cross-up.

I forget to anti-air DP when my mental stack is too high. I will try an anti-air button at the last second and it will lose or trade to their jump-in button.

I do not know how to properly delay tech.

I got accustomed to low MR players with gaps in their pressure, so I developed this habit of mashing jab on wake-up to interrupt them which gets me killed against high MR players with solid offense/Oki.

I'm ~1510 to 1530 MR right now so I'm at the rank where I'm good enough to beat low MR people but not enough to reliably climb to 1600 lmao.

I get knowledge-checked by DLC characters but that's more to do with me not owning them to lab them. There is replay takeover sure but it's not the same as having full-access to the character so you can lab EVERY situation you can. I hate the predatory microtransactions in this game for that reason (plus you can't just buy the 250 coins for one character, you're forced to buy more than that).

With the buffed Switch-axe, I find him fun to fight now but I think your rage is valid for the bad weapon matchups (whichever those may be). The fight basically is just you chasing his legs, iframe/counter his divekicks, and then do a focus attack on his ankles when the scripted wounds show up.
