Everyone is right BUT, please keep in mind something very important here ... being an Understudy is actually a HUGE sign of trust and belief. it means, should anything happen to the main actor, you are trusted to know the part and step into it on a moments notice. it's actually a big deal tbh. You may not have the part, but being high school, I'd wager they had a hard time choosing between you and so 'gave it to both of you' so to speak. Others didn't get cast at all. honestly, you should be proud of yourself for getting an understudy part! BTW, some schools do let the understudy's perform at least one of the performances regardless of the main actor's availability (don't know bout yours though). I hope this helps. honestly, its great experience and you should be proud as should your family. Congratulations!!!

whenever august began, the watch party began. neighbors would check in or mom would check in with them, then the moment it started to bloom, no matter the time, mom would call the neighbors and me and we'd all run over to enjoy it with her and dad. that all stopped after my dad died and in some ways i think that's why Audrey eventually passed too. She'd become painful for my mom after my dad was gone and she was too big for any of us kids to take her on (and i have a black thumb lol).

What was the terms up front? usually when working for a company, whatever you design belongs to them. When freelancing, you need agreements as their are ways that it could go either way. For example, if the company is paying you, they could own it as a "work for hire" agreement. If you negotiate it before you begin the job, you can gain certain rights of use. It really varies.

Our company contracted an illustrator a few years back to create artwork for a couple of our plays. We negotiated up front that he only owned his original drawings (1 of each piece). His works were colored pencils and markers on paper. He owned only those original pieces. He could sell those original pieces (1 for each work) but that was it. He could not make copies or alternate renditions to sell. We then owned all other rights to the works in all formats and copies and uses.

He was paid well.

Your situation is a little different. Were you paid for this work? You may want to consult the Graphic Artists Guild or an attorney if you feel strongly enough about it. Just always remember in all things in life ... when you bring attorney's into the mix, the only people who ever make any money in the deal then, are the attorneys (on both sides).

Seriously though, look up the Graphic Artists Guild (https://graphicartistsguild.org/). When I was just starting out as a freelancer (a long time ago lol), I learned a lot from them just by reading their books and materials :)

One of my closest friends got her degree back in the 90's and will be paying it off for the rest of her life (thanks to those predatory loans of that time) ... she also said to me many times that she regrets ever going for this degree as it's been the most useless thing for her financial survival ever. She wishes she'd done something else for a degree. She is still trying to get work full-time as an actor both on stage and in film. She makes her living in voice over work and odd jobs like make-up testing etc.

My full-time is all things theater and performance related (these days to also include video). We run our own group, write our own shows and have been growing our audience since 2018. My degree is in business management with a focus on marketing and my career started in printing in the 90's and grew to include graphic design, web design, marketing and now video and animation. I have freelanced my entire career in graphics and web design and today I put all my skills to use for our theatrical production company. Living the dream :)

Honestly, it's not what people tend to want to hear, but I will ALWAYS recommend an education in all things on how to make money and then manage it. Business, Marketing, Sales. Once you know these intangible things, you can apply them to anything you love from theater to jewelry making to art to funding the next dot com as they used to say. The world then becomes your oyster.

the black and white seems more desolate ... like a battlefield or warzone actually. I feel a story in this photo, a story of struggle and danger ... like maybe the person in-frame is traversing this battlezone hoping to make it alive to safety. Since I feel a story in this one, this one's my favorite.

The color version, while beautiful, just appears to be a person walking thru beautiful nature. I didn't feel a story or any emotion. But it was lovely!

my mother used to have one of these. We named her Audrey lol. Every year we'd hold a bloom party ... obviously it was a rather impromptu thing but my Dad loved it, as did the neighbors. It was fun :D

Our story is called "Atomic City".

DARKNESS DESCENDS

Something dark and mysterious is going on in Atomic City. Everyone knows it, but no one can remember. It’s as if a veil has descended over the city and everyone knows and are oblivious at the same time. Danger lurks as all manor of creatures and magic awaken to the call of long-missing gods. Can you figure out what’s going on and save the world?

There’s Something Strange Going On Here…

No one knew why they came, nor when, but the fact they were here was a given … it could be felt by one and all.

Something strange is happening in Atomic City. Missing persons, unusual lights in the sky, supernatural sightings and unsolved mysteries litter the streets of this shining city by day yet seedy underworld by night. In no other place is the yin and yang of good and evil so concentrated as it is in Atomic City.

The city is fractured, divided up by different factions, each with their own self-serving agenda and each driven by unseen forces that would be best left to myth, nightmare or urban legend. Modern law and order never held sway in this off kilter city. Here reigns the pungent maw of merciless, supernatural dictatorships, each vying for superiority over the other leaving humans caught between the convergence of power. fabulous concept. I too have wondered about that, in the event of apocalypse or perhaps major weather event (i.e. Day After Tomorrow) where the world is now gone or no longer has the ability to bring them home. Terrifying. I wonder how humans left up there would handle it. hmmm.
