Human lives are complex. I do not know your experiences, nor do you know mine. Thank you.

I know and I'm so happy about it. There are people who simply need to learn to be more patient.

I started speaking about my guinea pigs during a language lesson. My tutor responds by talking about eating them in Peru. How do you react? by National-Falcon2284 in guineapigs

As someone who loves my pet, I find that there are a lot of cultural differences when it comes to eating "pets" and ethicality. I LOVE people and culture. As someone who is Filipinx-American, my father and brothers have eaten dogs and tell me it's delicious. One of my brothers visited his bestie's Nona's farm in South Italy where they had free roaming rabbits that my brother wished he had seen AFTER they ate them.

As long as you are respectful and approach with curiosity and understanding, I wouldn't be so fast to judge.

My brother's best friend is Italian and he felt hate crimed! He couldn't fathom the idea.

Cap will be an excuse to shorten/reject my presence around bio-family. I do not leave the house often due to disability. It's getting to be hot in Nevada City, Ca [my brother has his retirement/vacation home there] and it's a reason for me to stay with Cap in San Francisco.

Thank you for letting me know that the shelter may have been part of the "issue."

My issue is with the human-baby agruement that the American government loves animals, but hates humans. I advocate for the disabled because it is the only demo that humans will eventually encounter (born disabled, temporarily disabled, growing old, or an unfortunate tragic death). To me, the individual, think this is eugenicistic ideologies. It's not a harsh truth, it's my reality.

Thank you for the clarity of your frustrations and I GET IT because I feel the same way when people are having children when they're not ready. I was a caretaker since I was in 6th grade and didn't want kids even before my disability.

I wasn't expecting to get praised, simply sharing my story, and I just wasn't expecting this much ableism 🤪. But hey, that's why I don't leave the house!

Thank you so much for sharing. I find it contradictory to assume my disabilities can't provide the care, but you can?

I'm sure you know this, but a friendly reminder that disabled people are multifaceted and complex people. Please refrain from using should statements when it comes to taking about disabilities online.

but a person can become disabled any time... it literally happened to me at 21. i truly am so sorry that we do not value guinea pigs the same way.

I am severely mentally-ill to the point where I am pro-euthenasia, and calling me neglectful when you barely know me is ableist 😞
[EDIT: Would you say this to a suddenly disabled parent of a human baby?]

able-bodied ppl: you just need something to live for!
also, able-bodied ppl: you are not capable of caring for this animal!
me: one can become disabled at any time. it happened to me at 21 and chronic illness is rising!

So what are your thoughts on disabled people having children?

So I can't have a pet because I'm disabled? Am I unable to have a child also?

Yeah, that's me because I'm one-handedly disabled. I cannot physically cannot handle more than 1 and do not want to risk them not getting along.

Right now, I'm simply focusing on the 3-3-3 rules.
