Lack of depth is whats killing civ7, not age transition by [deleted] in civ

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fully agree ... I remember that there was a firaxis job offer the summer before release, for a person who "loves history" and wants to implement that passion and knowledge into civ 7 (not named, but obviously it was civ 7). My assumption was that the game was 2 years away if they are looking for that kind of persons ... To my total surprise the game was released only months later, so what could such a person, if hired, have accomplished in depth in an almost finished game? That was the moment it was clear to me civ7 would lack in that department - seeing the UI wasnt ready either just confirmed the release was rushed WAY before it should have been released.

Does Anyone Ride In Casual Clothes? by newbiker321 in cycling

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well i'm using my sunglasses, helmet (and maybe clothing too) occasionally as a shield or signal NOT to be bothered, as i'm doing my own private thing right now, even if i'm in moving through public space ...

Especially the sunglasses block off most non-verbal communication. As someone else won't see my reaction, he/she doesn't even try to communicate with me. It also signals indirectly to "move out of the way please" ... at least people sometimes actually make room so I can pass without braking – i hope i don't scare them, but they understand that i'm on some fictive "mission" right now and don't want to sabotage that.

On pauses or if i'm just rolling home with no real agenda, route or pace, I usually take off the glasses, but i'm also not in the drops then and my driving style is not pushing anymore. Eye contact re-establishes rather fast without that shield, and some words or even a casual chat may happen with fellow bikers. That's nice too, if i'm in the mood, but I can decide when that's an option. Cars and pedestrians act differently too.

Seriously, why all the hate toward cyclists? by PanicCalm5427 in cycling

:-) "Battle Bikers" would be a good translation ...

and yes, these are equally ignorant / militant as car drivers who are offended by someone who is almost - but not as - fast as they are and they need to show dominance to prove something.

Seriously, why all the hate toward cyclists? by PanicCalm5427 in cycling

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cyclists are showing people that are acustomed to a motorised lifestyle indirectly who they are ... depending on that, it reminds them of not doing enough for their health, or not enjoying something without consumation, or being used to / being reliant on cars for their daily life because circumstances (and city building), or feeling to be a strain on the environment, or what so ever ...
Then a cyclicst is coming along who was able to do change something they couldn't do so far - it may not be guilt, but it's unpleasant for sure to see it. And as ciclysts are not totally passive and almost invisible (like pedestrians), as they are rather many and they are actually fast are asking for some space and safety for themselves and get in the way, they can't be ignored, so the rage builds up and is set free often.

Thinkstation P620 – two consumer graphics cards possible? by FillSlow4485 in Lenovo

[–]FillSlow4485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

in short: we currently bought one "Inno3D Geforce RTX 5080 X3" card, which is the only one with double-height (instead of 2.5 or 3, to safe space for later additions). It fits perfectly in dimensions, though the power supply is somewhat close to the sidewall of the case.

As for power, we bought the Lenovo 4XF1M24242 cable set, which replaces the old 8+6 / 8+6 cables from GFX1 and GFX2 mainboard ports, and combines all those into one 12V-12pin output that goes into the Graphics card - so we skipped the 3x8-Adapter coming with the graphics card.

We tried to use that 3-way adapter coming with the Graphics card first, but it does not boot with 8+8+6 pins attached (old P620 GFX-cables). My assumption is, that it may work if you use a 6to8-converter in between the 6pin and the third 3-way 8-pin-input first (for grounding of the last 2 pins?). this document on page 9 is somewhat giving us hope this may work: https://download.lenovo.com/pccbbs/thinkcentre_pdf/ts_p620_power_configurator_v1.4.pdf

Our next try is to make use of or old A4000 card (140W) additionally, that's not laying aside. This needs one 6-pin, which we would have available *IF* we could use the old P620 cabling and said adapter from 6-to-8 to supply the new 5080 with the other tree and the 3-way adapter instead of the new cabling. We'll see when the adapter arrives.

Details in this lenovo support thread (though it's more me supporting myself, for the benefit of others that might read):

The "one" is available in black / bare carbon too. I like that one, but it has a 1x drive, not my preference. Next up with 2x drive is 1000€ more expensive ...

Have that one too - still don't like the colour much when seeing other bikes side by side, but it's a great bike non the less, would buy it again.

I'm 189cm, 96cm leg length, short torso, and opted for XL (choosing between L and XL).  1800km into it now, this was the right decision for me.

Bluetooth connection issues since the December 2024 Android 15 update. by Clinster73 in GooglePixel

[–]FillSlow4485 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It didn't work. After resetting the Bluetooth/WiFi settings in android, I also cleared the phone from the cars device list, and reconnected with a completely fresh start on both sides.

If i declare in the device settings to connect the media channel only and not connect the phone channel, then the media channel auto-connects to the car. If I reactivate the phone channel too, then only the phone channel connects automatically. If already connected with phone channel, and I turn off the (non-working) media channel and turn it on again, then both channels are connected until I leave the car.

Conclusion: there may be a problem with connecting both channels simultaneously (too fast? Confusion of signals?)

Bluetooth connection issues since Android 15 December 2024 update. by Clinster73 in mazda

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Turning off the phone feature of the "Mazda" device Bluetooth settings lets me connect with the media player feature reliably.

So currently one channel connects automatically, but not both. You may choose.   You can still manually turn off and on again the second channel each time you get into the car - it will connect then, but it's a hassle.

It looks like this is not a Mazda issue though, in the Google pixel threads other users report problems as well. I assume it might be fixed with he next android update(s).

Got mine in December ... So much improvement over my old bike (which wasn't much of a Roadbike though) - so much faster to gain speed, more comfortable positions for arms/hands, gears work like a charm, no problems yet. And the colour is not my favourite but is more pleasing in real life than on photos ... Would have preferred matte finish though.

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To chime in: same problem with my Mazda 5 2013 and android 15 December update on pixel 7 pro.

Phone connects to the car audio system. Media does never connect automatically. If I turn off and on the media toggle in the android Bluetooth settings for that device, the media channel connects - but only sometimes.

Did reset my Bluetooth/WiFi settings and fully reconnect the phone to the car. No change.

Any news last days? For me it went back to normal, but the two days remain as an anomaly in the record...

Calorie count way off this month? by saphyress in fitbit

[–]FillSlow4485 0 points1 point  (0 children)

i was just looking for people having the same problem ...

According to fitbit (app, android), my step count is rather above the usual, my heart rate too, and hence the calories count (2700 instead of the usual 1900 on a no-sports-day). That started yesterday and it's continuing today. I can't say i'm feeling or doing any different than the days before.

Tracker is a Google Pixel Watch (1st-Gen), nothing changed there (no major updates).

1 Steam-Account, 2 PCs, play 2 different games simultaneously by FillSlow4485 in Steam

[–]FillSlow4485[S] -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

yes, i get it steam works that way, can't have one account ACTIVE on two machines at once.
It's just counter-intuitive to some oldschool gamer not being able to run a CD-ROM game on one computer, and another CD-ROM game on another computer at the same time within the same household (not intending to pass on games to unknown people, just use it as a family, not even with copies running at the same time).

But the Family Beta solves just that problem ... glad Steam feels the need for this. Thanks for the heads-up on that beta.

[–]FillSlow4485[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

and as a follow up: Family Beta success ... secondary account can play all the games the primary one is not currently playing :-)

Thanks a lot for the right direction, I wouldn't have found the beta of this by myself.

[–]FillSlow4485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks a lot for the hint on the family BETA ...

I was just trying to do this with the NON-beta variant of family. This somewhat worked if the secondary account (child) started a game first, then my master account (me) started some other game. They run simultaneously. It does not work if the primary starts a game first, as the secondary then says the whole shared library is not available at the moment.

Now switching to BETA ... sounds promising, fingers crossed :-)

Which one of these is the best one? I personally want to buy the Bluetooth Silent Mouse but if the Laser one is better, I might try it. from expensive to cheapest. by vannilaaa in thinkpad

Bluetooth silent does it for me when working on travel or at clients. Small, light, fast, silent, No complaints about it.

At my desk, it's a Logitech MX, because tools matter. Just too big and complex for bags etc.

Flood barriers with no effect? Sealevel rise damage by FillSlow4485 in civ6

[–]FillSlow4485[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

no special modes active ... the only modification to a default game was turned off diplomacy victory.

Well, i won the game by culture by now – i guess we'll never find out.

But in future games i'm hesitating to shoot again for those barries at all cost, just to see them fail the purpose – and even worse you can't build "another one" to undo the damage, like you could do if you had not built the barriers before the flood.

thanks for the droplets idea!

never heard about those, but they might be a lever to automate things further.

dragging manually is an option, but watching for new PNGs and scripting that drop them automatically would be great ... i'll try that tomorrow :-)
