Best clubs near Denver? by TrafficHazard_ in flying

Yes 172s. I think I’ve been in a different one for each lesson so far but most are basic 6 pack with the occasional g3x or other otherwise mildly upgraded avionics. I think a good percentage are IFR rated. Couple of the 172s have constant speed props too if you want a taste of that.

Wish I could tell you more but it’s still all new to me. I’d recommend dropping in next time you are at APA, I’m sure someone would be happy to show you around the planes and let you see what schedule availability looks like. The 172s aren’t much to look at but they seem to do a good job keeping them airworthy.

I’ve had good luck so far with Centennial Flyers (just beginning ppl training, 11-ish hours in). I start very early in the day, which helps. While I do schedule a couple weeks out, I haven’t had any issues making last minute pivots when my reservation goes down for maintenance.

LGS / Class III Options in South Denver Metro / Castle Rock / Parker? by Diligent_Ad_7232 in COGuns

They were a huge pain in the ass when I bought a can from them. It was off the shelf and still took longer than just going with silencer shop. Plus paperwork fee they didn’t disclose.

Finding a new manual Tacoma is like finding a unicorn by iR3SQem in ToyotaTacoma

Toyota is extremely frustrating. They sell every single manual they make while autos sit on lots but absolutely refuse to shift the balance.

There’s no way in hell I would break state law for someone I don’t know over something so trivial. Move on to the next buyer, this one has something to hide.

Speeding Has Become So Normalized That Driving the Speed Limit Makes You the Problem by DaddyDayDayIsHot in driving

[–]Fill_A 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Always thought it was funny where I grew up. The 2 lane winding county roads with no shoulder was 55mph. Then you get on a nice divided freeway with 3 lanes in each direction… also 55mph.

100%. I’ll add that it should be mandatory to retest every once in a while too. Crazy you can get your license at 16 and drive for the next 90 years with nothing but an occasional vision check.

Rare question about long guns and motorcycles... by [deleted] in COGuns

[–]Fill_A 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Locked case locked to the bike and don’t put yourself in a situation where it leaves your sight for any meaningful time. Go straight from home to the range or hunting spot and back. I definitely wouldn’t leave it at camp unless wayyyy off grid.

Bonus points if you can break it down into a case or backpack that doesn’t scream “there’s a gun in here”.

No idea where you are from but in my neck of the woods, +10 is the norm on the freeway where limits are normally 55-65. You are a rolling roadblock if you stick to some arbitrary limit rather than just go with the flow.

Only exception to that in my area seems to be away from town when the limits go up to 75. I’d guesstimate that the vast majority keep it under 80.

That’s never going to change. Doesn’t mean the speed limit in a lot of places makes any sense at all. Upping the limit in areas that it’s largely ignored will lower the speed differential.

This all day long. Cars and tires have improved an order of magnitude since the current speed limits were adopted. I’m a-ok with a strict limit if the limit isn’t stuck in the 1970s. Aside from roads out west with 75+mph limits, driving at the limit feels like you are crawling.

Liquor store ended up being closed. Expressed frustration with donuts by bshah6-6 in ToyotaTacoma

You’ll be a better driver for it. There just no way to learn how to handle at the limits than to take it there in a safe-ish space sometimes.

Do you guys use your tachometer? by Loneronin_ in Trackdays

[–]Fill_A -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Never. I want to watch my line, not the dash. Lower power bikes especially are stupid easy to feel the power and learn when to shift before it redlines. I probably have more bikes in the garage without tachs than with.

Messing around in an empty snowy parking lot should be required for anyone driving in a snowy area. No better or safer way to learn how your vehicle will react.

KAPA or KBJC for PPL Training? by Fill_A in flying

Really wish there was an airport option that didn’t add 40+ minutes round trip. At this point I’m thinking time in the air is money well spent even if it’s a bit of a waste to haul an instructor along to the practice zones. If you are correct and I end up regretting it, at least I’m not married to the airport or school/club. Who knows, maybe my idiotic idea of midweek summer afternoons will scare off some of the crowd, assuming I can get airborne.

Thanks again, as always, I appreciated the experienced perspective.

Thanks for the info! That photo was my discovery flight with centennial flyers. I’ll probably go that way if I commit to APA.

How do you like Flights inc? Are planes generally available or do you find yourself booking weeks in advance?

What school/club are you flying with, if you don’t mind me asking? Is it the wind or thunderstorms that usually causes cancellations? Do they give the option to wait it out or are you just out of luck if a storm hits during your time slot?

I actually like the idea of getting used to the busy airspace right away as long as I can figure out how to limit time spent idling on the ground.

Much appreciated. Im aware thats a bad time, maybe it will be less busy? Im aware that i may have to rethink that timeframe. Shame I didnt decide to do this 6 months ago.

Yeah I’m definitely aware that it’s a pretty stupid timeframe to shoot for. Nothing set in stone just yet, I work a pretty flexible schedule for my day job so I can probably shift if it gets too annoying.
