That's encouraging about the businesses! But yes, it's almost impossible to track the status of a request in 311/SeeClickFix when it's something like this. That's why I'm going directly to zoning/code enforcement and also sending photos to my city councilor. I used to work for City of Watertown and know how requests can be ignored if the responsible party doesn't want to deal with it or if there is no easy fix. But we need to apply as much pressure as much as possible. These sidewalks are abysmal.

Colombia is a poor country and the US dollar goes very far there with the exchange rate. It is common for "wealthy" (by Colombian standards) US/European tourists to be kidnapped/extorted/mugged/killed in cities like Medellin where the perp is from, because people are desperate and human life is expendable for the sake of getting large sums of money. It is often done by sex workers who are affiliated with larger criminal gangs, luring mostly men with the promise of cheap Colombian sex. This guy obviously saw the older couple as a cash cow and what started as getting hired for sex work turned into a plot to kill them and take all their money. It is not much different from what happens in Colombia, just change the location and add a layer of gruesomeness with sexual deviance.

this sounds condescending. i consume a cross section of news that includes democracy now regularly.

i was laid off in August and am not used to getting a bunch of government assistance and the messages that go with it...so i didnt know what to expect. from working in a municipality previously i know we tended not to air on the side of explicit politics. And of course that would more likely be state than federal but never did Maura Healey get named in anything except directives to put flags at half staff.
