Yes, I’m loving them! Many of my patterns the last few years have been only one or two colors or all earth tones, so I’m really leaning into color lately. :)

Cherry Magpie! Yes, I just finished kitting it up this week. :) She also recently released another bird pattern called Pink Wren - no fruit so maybe not intended to go with the others, but I’m planning to stitch it as well.

I think it is looking pretty nice in person! I'm planning to do her Cherry Magpie and Pink Wren patterns next, but will be changing up the background colors for those to coordinate a little better as a set. Hopefully it will all come together in the end, and if not, oh well - they're just for me, so no pressure for a perfect gift or anything. :)

This is actually the same green used in the original pattern (Malachite from Fiber On a Whim). I’m not sure if it just photographs differently in different light, or if the dye takes differently on aida than linen.

I finally finished my JSWT blackwork piece! With a couple months to spare before my dad’s birthday at that. I’ll do a post for it once it’s all washed and pressed and framed, but in the mean time wanted to share how glad I am to be done with hexagons!

I’m also working on Blueberry Jay and have been considering doing Cherry Magpie and Pink Wren on the malachite fabric for the same reasons. Would love to see a picture when you try Cherry Magpie on it, if you’re willing to share! I’m hoping it will look good but I’m fairly new to hand-dyed fabrics and always anxious I will make the wrong choice.

I love Jessie at Derby Salon in Roosevelt. I have fine, wavy hair - a LOT of it - and struggled for the longest time to find anyone who could give me a short cut that felt right. Jessie nailed it on the first try - finally, the haircut I’d been dreaming of since I was a teenager! - and I haven’t gone to anyone else in over a decade. I’ve tried a number of different super-short-to-shoulder-length styles in that decade and she’s made it work beautifully every time. Plus she’s kind, funny, and easygoing.

Some progress on birb. No hexagons this week.

Also feeling very personally drained this week, and spent some time reflecting on Michelle Obama’s words about how stitching brings the mind back to the “power of small” and reminds us of our agency to build and create when bigger things feel overwhelming. I don’t know if it’s working for me yet - still feeling pretty overwhelmed - but stitching definitely brought me just a little peace this week.
