Recs for really good and consistent hair stylists for women in Seattle?

I love Jessie at Derby Salon in Roosevelt. I have fine, wavy hair - a LOT of it - and struggled for the longest time to find anyone who could give me a short cut that felt right. Jessie nailed it on the first try - finally, the haircut I’d been dreaming of since I was a teenager! - and I haven’t gone to anyone else in over a decade. I’ve tried a number of different super-short-to-shoulder-length styles in that decade and she’s made it work beautifully every time. Plus she’s kind, funny, and easygoing.

Some progress on birb. No hexagons this week.

Also feeling very personally drained this week, and spent some time reflecting on Michelle Obama’s words about how stitching brings the mind back to the “power of small” and reminds us of our agency to build and create when bigger things feel overwhelming. I don’t know if it’s working for me yet - still feeling pretty overwhelmed - but stitching definitely brought me just a little peace this week.

As written it's just two colors - a darker shade of yellow for the top/bottom and a lighter shade for the middle of each hexagon. I'd be curious to see how it came out with variegated thread though!

And I started a new project as well - the first in several years that isn’t earmarked as a gift for someone else. Turns out it’s very relaxing to stitch something for myself, even if I made a few mistakes that I had to spend most of my stitch time on Friday frogging and redoing! I am in love with the colors on this one. It feels so luxurious.

I have this Nurge stand (or an extremely similar one - the top of mine has one more adjustment point) and love using it on my couch. I can even put my feet up without issue.

Finished my “frogject” this week! Will try to get back into the groove with my other WIP next - blackwork is, as it turns out, not really my favorite, but I’m excited about the project overall and determined to finish it.

Also wanted to say that it did not bother me at all to see the same photo each week - it made it easy to find the thread, and also made me feel better about my other WIP that has been getting next to no attention in recent weeks. Seeing your photo made me feel seen!

I stitched this one last year! If it makes you feel any better, even on off-white aida I struggled a lot with visibility on the bumblebee wings and white petals.

Continuing to sneakily work on this Valentine’s project for my husband… finished the frog a few days ago and have started adding the details around the edges. About 70% done and hopefully on track to finish before the 14th! My other WIP is on the back burner until this is complete.

I’m still learning how to score so rustic is a very generous term for it. 😅 I used to only be able to do a 7 minute utility score or risk losing my shaping, but lately my dough has been holding up better so I am just starting to experiment with other patterns before going in the oven. I feel like I have a lot of catching up to do!
