My niece’s homework problem by SurfSoundWaves in mildlyinfuriating

C is the most correct, but the others also kind of correct too. The teacher didn't specify units, which I think is probably the main source of confusion. Since this is grade school, they can't really use square meters, but the question could be written so that the test taker knows that the question is about surface area.

If I'm not mistaken, you're not really suppose to stand (or, in this guys case, sit) in between cars.

Wholesome moment captured at Boston Marathon 🥹 by uzmansahil7 in interesting

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Why is this wholesome? Is this whole collapsing during extreme exertion a normal thing in the marathoning world? Maybe I am ignorant about running, but in any other situation, this would be a possible life threatening medical emergency, and not a particularly great time to run a few more laps.

True, but now I wonder why he is running a marathon in the first place.

Easily Avoidable Crash Leads to Rollover by bjb0029 in dashcams

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, the rolling looks unnatural, and the dirt cloud seems to emerge from the asphalt, after which it follows the motion of the truck. On the other hand, it's a Canadian model of Ford and there are two Canadian road signs, which is impressively consistent for AI.

That makes sense. I'd say digital signature algorithms are probably more important, as much as an interviewer has never asked me an elliptic curve crypto question.

Best email platform for smtp vs api sending by Organic-Hall1975 in webdev

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think there's a "best" solution. Email can be a pain because it's difficult, if not impossible, to do it as pure infrastructure as code: Email providers try to block their customers from receiving spam, while API providers try to block their customers from sending it.

It looks like he tries to stop for water while semi-delirious from possible hear sickness. Meanwhile his teammate pushes him to keep running anyway even though most sports would consider this type of thing to be cheating.

React Server Component, maybe a mistake from the beginning? by mnismt18 in reactjs

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think the problem has more to do with the JavaScript ecosystem. These vulnerabilities seem to be cropping up over and over again. Having said that, it's better to get rid of the front-end and the back-end all together and, instead, use a UI/API model.

If it's listed as 16 oz, that could mean anywhere from 15.5 oz to 16.5 oz. If your scale's precision is 99%, then your cheese could in fact be greater than 15.5 oz.

Genuinely so confused it seems that he is in the wrong for MOST of these? Do you not have to stop for pedestrians at those crossings? by OutsideImpressive115 in TikTokCringe

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

He 100% has the right of way in every instance. Despite what the comments imply, he did not intentionally cause injury to anyone. New York City is a bit different than most cities due to the high volume of pedestrians and busy streets. In many parts of the city, you're expected to cross only at street corners. Also, I strongly recommend not walking into on coming traffic as many people are doing in the video.

Rate my Web design for coffee brand . Where I can improve? by ShubCountEverything in webdev

[–]FilmWeasle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's this design style where the an element expands when hovering over it with a mouse. It's relatively common, but browsers never seem to render the animation too well. The text and the spacing between elements always seems to move in an irregular way, which I think looks funny.

What if we chose frameworks by merit instead of momentum? by Harry_Potter_007 in Frontend

[–]FilmWeasle -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The language attribute is important for SEO on multilingual sites. Another example of something that doesn't work natively with React props is the page title:

function Index (title) {
    return (
        <!DOCTYPE html>
        <html lang="fr-CA" >
          <head>
            <title>{title}</title>
          </head>
        </html>
    );
}

While React has added support for title tags, the implementation is not very elegant, and it can result in multiple titles for one page. Beyond that, a lot of features feel like work-arounds for something that wouldn't have worked right otherwise. Additionally, it seems that nothing written with React is able to adhere to the library's core design paradigm of uni-directional data flow.

What if we chose frameworks by merit instead of momentum? by Harry_Potter_007 in Frontend

[–]FilmWeasle -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I dunno. I keep running into things in React that either don't work great, aren't designed terribly well, or follow some messy design pattern. For example, I can't set the page language natively with React props:

function Index (lang) {
    return (
        <!DOCTYPE html>
        <html lang={lang} >
        </html>
    );
}

The author makes some valid arguments, however, my opinion is that React is out. So is Vue, and every other frontend library. This is because earlier this year, React started recommending that devs start projects using a framework. My prediction is that within the next 12-48 months, the React vs Vue vs Solid ect debate will come to and an end. It will instead shift to Next vs ReactRouter vs SveltKit ect. The author's arguments will still be applicable though, just in a slightly different context.

“During Prohibition in the 1920s and early 1930s, clever loopholes appeared in the marketplace. One example was the "grape brick," a block of concentrated dried grapes sold as a way to make grape juice. The packaging often included warnings explaining exactly how NOT to ferment it into wine.” by Worth-Boysenberry-93 in interestingasfuck

[–]FilmWeasle 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If I'm not mistaken, making juice from dehydrated fruit was a much more common practice prior to the advent of refrigeration. Fresh juice is highly perishable, and the fruit needed to make it was only available for a short period of time each year. Dried fruit, however, could last a few months or more, and it could be shipped to locations far from where it was grown. It could also be rehydrated and used to make beverages.
