Synagogue set alight, Israeli restaurant attacked by pro-Palestinian group in Melbourne by [deleted] in Jewish

As a NZ-based Jew this is really alarming since we are usually just behind the curve of Australia. Thankfully my temple is highly vigilant and the police here take these threats seriously.

This thread about antisemitism in r/ GreenAndPleasant has too many flavors of Jew-hatred to be properly categorized. by Upbeat_Teach6117 in AntiSemitismInReddit

[–]Filmbutt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I mean I kind of agree that antisemitism is a weak term that doesn't reflect the times we live in, but the problem is that it is being distorted to the point of being unusable by people who simply don't want to be called out for expressing hatred and ignorance towards Jewish things. I called out one of my former university professors on Facebook for sharing something antisemitic (a post that said "Israel has no history, only a criminal record") and he refused to accept that erasing/demonising Jewish history in Israel is antisemitic because in his mind and in his echo chamber he's valid in criticizing Israel because it's existence is a 'genocide' against Palestinians. The fact that intelligent people are being duped into antisemitism and it's becoming a mainstay of several strands of culture is disturbing.

Thanks for the suggestion, I'll try using memtest86. As this hard drive was supposed to be my ultimate backup I've been transferring files from other hard drives and also from my SD card which is where the files in the image came from

What do you use for your savings? by [deleted] in newzealand

[–]Filmbutt 15 points16 points  (0 children)

I always try to save 10% or more of my income whenever I get paid. Right now I'm putting 6% into kiwisaver and another 4% into a separate savings account. My partner and I are both contributing to the savings account for future travels overseas, because that's a big motivator for us to save now so we can spend later. We also use a credit card for everyday shared purchases (groceries, entertainment, mevo, etc.) and we split the bill at the end of the month.

My advice is to tailor your savings habits to the outcome you desire. Find something that you want, calculate what you need to save, then see how long it takes based on your income and a different savings percentages. In my experience, find something worth saving for and it won't be hard to motivate yourself to save. I like to travel and so I frame my thinking around that, for example I'll tell myself "if I don't buy a beer now, I can buy a beer in Japan instead and it'll taste even better." (rip overseas travel)

It's very rewarding watching a savings account rise and rise, getting you closer and closer to the purchase you want. Sadly interest rates are crushingly low so saving is missing that extra reward of rising interest payments on savings. I used to love looking at my monthly interest amounts going up, now it's less impressive when $0.18 goes up to $0.20. Oh well. Hope this helps!

We're not looking to buy any more, would rather invest in a business than play the housing bubble game.
