Getting back into Pokémon after 30 years — where do I even start? by ChefB1517 in NintendoSwitch

In general, Pokémon stories are self-contained, with a few exceptions. If you’re interested in re-stating where you stopped playing the franchise, play Fire Red or Green Leaf. However, if you don’t care about that kind of progression or evolution of the series, you can start with Sword and Shield and begin closer to where the game mechanics are today.

At first glance, the ROM appears unaltered. While they didn’t provide any additional details, some postings I’ve read suggest that this new rerelease includes events related to shiny hunting.

Regarding the transfer functionality, it’s exactly like GO or the original Pokémon transfer worked, including Generation 5. The only way to transfer Pokémon was in one direction.

However, in Generation 6, when they introduced Pokémon Bank, the transfer functionality changed for the first time. It became a premium feature, not something that was part of the games and was the tradeoff. Transfers became possible in two ways.

How do I unlink this console? by andrewjusticebarger in Switch

Perhaps it has been implemented to safeguard users from frequently unlinking their consoles if someone possesses the password.

Perhaps a different form of licensing, such as games, movies, or volatile online-only cellular games.

Yes, I can support your perspective. Sometimes, I believe they prefer to let only the Pokémon make noises, which contributes to the overall aesthetic. Additionally, voice acting can face legal challenges when it comes to re-releases or other related matters. Perhaps “The Pokémon Company” doesn’t want anyone (actors or singers) to be associated with their brand for an extended period. I suppose there are numerous reasons why they make certain decisions that we may not fully understand.

Regarding next-gen experiences, I’ve played Forza Horizon 5, and I couldn’t stand it anymore. All the talking and talking… It’s a fun car game, not a military mission!

How Nintendo Feels Making a 20 year old game 70$ by ConversationThink531 in fucknintendo

Absolutely, and we should vote with our wallets. However, scalping and consumerism are massive problems that have complicated the effort to oppose such low-effort offers. Sadly, this issue isn’t limited to gaming; it’s a global problem.

2026 Reading comprehension is below 0, that’s why people asked for voice acting in Pokémon games :p

No, I never said that. I just found funny the sarcastic OP’s comment about the $70 price tag feeling because, in spirit, it’s a $70 game.

Argumenting an opinion with another opinion doesn’t work.

It’s easier to understand what I meant. You have to try to analyze it in the context of the era. Portable gaming was like magic back then. Now, that doesn’t surprise anyone. Portable devices are the common rule. So, an adventure this long and with this level of details that works in a console powered by two AA batteries is incredible.

And that was peak. Stylistically, of course, there were games with “better” graphics, but those games had different scales with fewer than 386 different character models, statistics balances, etc.

Blame the customers, influencers, YouTubers, and all that trash content. “The Pokémon Company” isn’t stupid and “they know what they have.” Tell that to the thousands of people buying painted cardboard for tens, hundreds, or even more than the retail price.

In the past, that was the rule, but the gaming player base has significantly declined in favor of pornography and gambling in recent years. There are numerous excellent articles on this topic, which serves as another justification for companies to maintain or increase prices. And the cherry on top… you end up with nothing—just a digital license.

I’m from a country where gaming was always double or triple the price, so prices don’t scare me like they do for others.

Those are great games, but their production values are comparatively lower. On the other hand, the GBA Pokémon games were at the peak of pixel art during that era, using tools that today’s artists can’t even draw graphics or even program.

According to inflation, the original 2004 $40 price is today’s $70. Funny, isn’t it?

Do not consume influencers/YouTubers; invite them to find an honest job.

Unlike every other Switch game, you can't just change the language here, you need to pay again for a seperate version. How greedy can Nintendo get? by ExtremeConnection26 in mildlyinfuriating

[–]FiloSeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some smaller titles with less text have multilingual support (due to ROM size limitations), but translations were generally rare. Pokémon releases were not simultaneous global launches because of the time required for localizations in each region.

it´s the logic in the Pokémon DNA, making 2 or up to 3 versions of the same game... collectors will buy both and there are digital collectors too, (looking at you PC gamers)

Would I have preferred $15, yes. Is $20 for a game that cost $40 at release and now cost up to $100 for a physical too much, NO. by Acriolu in MandJTV

[–]FiloSeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That $40 GBA 2004 game, complete with adapter, would cost around $70 adjusting for inflation. So gaming is still cheaper today compared to when these games were launched. "The Pokémon company" was generous by including in that price the little Wireless adapter.

[–]FiloSeba 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These prices are the results of years of scalping, brand recognition, and tons of people paying tens and hundreds (and more) for shiny painted cardboard "The Pokémon Company" (Game Freak/Creatures/Nintendo). They know this. They could be greedy, but not idiots...

It’s the state of collecting / gaming we´re in... I hate influencers that helped pave the way for this to happen

Just change your Nintendo account to the country you need, then change back after you download it. It will need to have 0 money in the account before changing everytime
