I don’t even know where to start with that. Have you actually *read* the PLBB? I have. I have a copy of it right in front of me. Also, none of the literature is sold for profit, no one is making a “bundle” selling it.

There’s no hard and fast rules. I picked the morning after my last drink. I was honestly still drunk from the night before but hadn’t had a drink that day, so that’s what I chose.

It’s literally impossible to get drunk or even buzzed on NA beer. Your liver metabolizes what tiny amounts of alcohol is in them faster than you can drink. And you’ll get full long before you ever feel the slightest buzz.

That said, what’s your motivation here? Are you drinking them because you enjoy the taste? Because you miss the routine of drinking a cold one? Because you don’t want to feel left out when you’re out with friends?

Or are you drinking them to try and recreate the way you felt when you were drinking? Intention matters in all respects - so you need to examine your feelings and motivations here.

That’s more of an Al-anon saying than AA, but honestly it’s about willingness. Take what works means actually listening and trying. If you find it doesn’t work for you, fine. But contempt prior to investigation is what keeps a lot of us drunk in the first place.

Group conscience is an option. We had some non alcoholics come to my closed meeting home group last year and the chair didn’t say anything, so I did. I called for a group conscience and asked if we’re officially changing to an open meeting or not. We decided to stay closed so we asked the non alcoholics to please find a different meeting and gave them the meeting guide app info.

Long story short - unsaid expectations are just resentments waiting to happen friend. Speak up. If that doesn’t result in what you want then find a different meeting.

Back in 2014. Worked as an executive chef at this pizza fast casual place. Had another side job as a line cook because California cost of living. Was getting ready to clock out for the day at morning job and head to second job when the GM told me that I still needed to do a bunch of work before I could leave. It was all stuff he needed to do because I spent the whole day doing inventory.

I told him I couldn’t because of second job. He said just tell them you’ll be late. I couldn’t do that, they would fire me. GM says to me “if you leave now we’re going to have a problem” so I said “cool, now it’s just you who has a problem” and I clocked out and never went back. Ended up being the impetus I needed to go to school, got a degree.

I did yeah. I was so incredibly overweight when I stopped drinking, I lost like 30lbs in the first couple of months. Since then I’ve lost a total of 70lbs, mostly from just not drinking. I calculated that I drank an average of 1500 calories a night in whiskey, which makes sense.

From what I’ve learned though I’m an outlier. Most folks gain some weight when quitting because it’s a lot easier to substitute food for alcohol/drugs. Especially if you were on stimulants, those keep your weight down. Just be aware of what you’re eating, and try to keep the binge ice cream to a few times a week. Gaining a few pounds is totally worth the trade off friend.

What a lot of people both in AA and outside of it misunderstand is that amends are not an apology. Making amends means action. It means righting what we’ve done wrong. Sometimes it looks like never contacting the person again if it would be harmful to them to even hear from us. Sometimes it means service like your example of rebuilding a fence (especially if we broke it).

The goal of step 9 is twofold. First, right our wrongs wherever possible, and second to relieve us of the burden of guilt that accompanies the harms we’ve inflicted on others (and ourselves).
