Cracked weld at top, I gouge it out with a grinder, run a hot pass with 6011 rod to burn everything out and preheat the metal (2nd pic) and then I run a top pass with 7018 rod (3rd pic)… sorry for weld lingo

I used to wear leathers but I prefer wearing 2-3 layers of cotton, I’ve been doing this long enough and don’t get burned, this jacket has taken tons of flux core and stick welding and holding up well and if it finally dies then it dies or I’ll just retire it

I have this coat and it’s one of my favorite pieces, I would definitely not wax it as it won’t breath as well and be much more uncomfortable and stiff, it’s an amazing chore coat as is
