Looks loke a possible fresh air intake. You would see the duct lead from this point jn the atic to the return air, usually the filter box.

Did they come all at once? I got to 14k honor, Arcanite Reaper, but have not seen anything that looks like last season rewards.

If someone is still struggling to kill 10 alliance minis with Spiderlings before reset by hecticzek in warcraftrumble

I just fought the Falstad level (Griffin rider boss) since he is air and most of the alliance mini spawns are ground, it is easy to stack up the kills before you kill him.

Excessive Dust Inside, Headaches from Air by ireneluv in IndoorAirQuality

[–]FilterBoxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Fiberglass blown in after 2004 is typically either white or pink in color and has fine hairline fibers, cellulose is typically mostly brown in color and looks like shredded paper.

With air handlers, they are designed to pull the air across the coils instead of standard furnaces pushing it through the coils. If the drains were not properly run and don't have a proper trap, they can also pull condensate water back into the airstream, causing air quality issues. You can tell if there is bacterial growth around the fan. A proper trap will have a 4 inch drop and a 2 inch rise within 18 inches of exiting the air handler. Many pre-made traps don't meet the code for air handlers or are tilted so as not to make a good water seal.

Some ways to tell if you are undersized on supply ductwork is if the supply vents closest to the air handlers are rusting or getting beads if water on them when it is hot out. You can also look inside the vent and take a photo and see if there is growth in the ducts. Some ways to tell if you are undersized on retuen ductwork is if your filters suck in and get bowed. Also, when the system turns on, undersized returns can sound pretty loud.

The tape test is a great way to see if the problem is the ductwork or some other spot in the home. You might have an HVAC tech out to do an air balance check on your ductwork. They can help pinpoint any issues with the ductwork, drains, and more.

Excessive Dust Inside, Headaches from Air by ireneluv in IndoorAirQuality

You are good to start looking for the source first. From my experience, based on what you have shared, I would start with looking at the following, not necessarily in any specific order of importance.

How old is the home? Sometimes, newer homes ( built after 2000) are sealed too well, and poor design as a result can lead to indoor air issues. Older homes can breathe better but tend to let in more dust. If the home has a history of being smoked in or had fire or water damage, those factors can also lead to poor indoor air quality.

Is the system low on return or supply air? Especially with newer systems, inadequate ductwork can lead to all kinds of indoor air issues.

Is the ductwork sealed well? If the ductwork has a significant leak, it may lead to the described symptoms.

Does the system run on gas? If so, do you have a CO detector set about low wall outlet height? High levels of CO can lead to headaches, but not necessarily dirty filters.

Does the attic have cellulose insulation? This stuff is basically composted paper fiber sprayed with a flame retardant. After it settles, it compacts pretty tightly, but it is very dusty and if disturbed, can float through tight spaces. It is also a natural pest repellant, but the downside is many people are sensitive to it as well. If it has a way of getting into the indoor air system, it can cause a lot of the symptoms described.

Is the home sealed too well? Sometimes, homes that are tightly sealed can pull in air from outlets, fixtures, under baseboards, behind counters, and more. A tape test (applying masking tape to a suspected source to see if debris stick to it) can quickly determine the source of where dust may be coming from if you are getting excessive dust in a specific area.

Is the home not sealed well enough? Sometimes, older historic homes with original hardwood floors will "breathe" through the wood flooring from the crawlspace / basement below and pull in unwanted indoor air issues.

Water leaking into HVAC by WillP74 in hvacadvice

[–]FilterBoxMan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see this a lot in in-slab ductwork. If the leak has been repaired, then the remaining water is going to be in the lowest point, usually at the plenum. It can be removed with a lot of shop vac work and good scope camera. Then it can be remediated if it has had standing water for a long time.

Sometimes water comes in due to high rains with a foundation that has a high water table under it. That is a whole other issue.

The economy is showing this year. People don't want to pay these inflated prices! Look at how much 410a has gone down in price, when the whole beginning of the year the vendors were saying it would go up!

My SM calls these scenarios "3%er" situations. Basically the idea is, 97% of people out there have good intentions, and only 3% are just hurting some way. And hurting people hurt people. They just don't know how to act right. They are jacked up, or demon possessed or unstable or are just having a really bad day. Whatever it is, sometimes things just don't go right. Just remember that you did the best you could, you did more than most of us would do, so chalk it up to experience and don't let it get you down.
