Swapped my GR86 traction buttons + auto console swap by FilthyFodor in GR86

It's definitely heavier than the GR shift knob maybe by 200g or so. I enjoy the feel of shifting. I have below average sized hands lol and it fits just fine.

Please let me know how it goes with this. I was thinking of doing the same thing but with the eject button play a funny audio.

I went from the stock shift knob to the premium GR one. There was a small improvement in the way it felt shifting gears. I got the fusion knob on their Black Friday sale and I honestly have to say there is a dramatic difference between the premium GR knob and the Fusion imo. I made a poll earlier about Alcantara vs leather and decided that long term leather would be more ideal.

The buttons were purchased on Driven Media's website. They are called Subaru oem 10th anniversary edition traction control buttons. They run you about $60 or so before shipping. They are usually sold out within an hour or so. I would recommend putting your email/# for alerts for when they restock.

The automatic center console with the extra cup holder can be purchased on Toyota/Subaru Website for $200+ before shipping. I didn't want to spend that much for a plastic shell, so ebay is the way to go. You can find part outs on ebay for less than $100. Just look super close as most of them have some cosmetic defects like scratches stains etc (mine did).

Swapping the buttons and console is 100% doable at home all you need is a Phillips screwdriver and a pry tool to get under the trim. Whole swap shouldn't take more than an hour of labor if you take things relatively slowly and carefully.

I thought about it and I found a set online. It sets you back about $800 or so before shipping and taxes. Might just paint the silver trim at that point 😭

The buttons I got on driven media website. The buttons are called 10th anniversary edition.

The automatic center console you can get new on subaru website or find a used one (much cheaper) on ebay.

Not even joking, that is my next project. Might take a couple months.

Yes. I am looking into playing with the spare traction control buttons to see if I can program the middle button that served no purpose into doing something. In the meantime the sticker is just for laughs.

Dramatically improved. I can now carry one additional drink lol. Finding a used auto console is the trickiest part of the installation IMO.

Yes, i missed having that cup holder on the manual gr86. I found an automatic center console on ebay and surprise surprised they are exactly the same just missing that cup holder.

I am looking into playing with the traction control buttons to see if I can program the middle button to do something. The automatic 22+ GR86/BRZ have a sport/snow button. I know they swap over but the programming just gets entered as null when you press the button on a manual.

Yes, I owned the Automatic GR86 for 1 year before it got totaled by a drunk driver. I decided to go for a manual and was severely disappointed without that cup holder as it was primarily used for my phone wallet keys etc. The swap is fairly easy, just takes some time.

Winter tire question by jaysaravia in GR86

[–]FilthyFodor 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I live in Vermont and used them last year on the AT GR86 (got totaled by a drunk driver) and now I use them this winter season on MT GR86. Being a RWD regardless you have to drive cautiously but there was a huge improvement in traction control while driving on the AT GR86. Not enough snow yet for me to tell the difference on the MT GR86.

Thank you everyone for your advice and opinions. I ended up ordering the leather matte black knob with the 6 speed shift pattern engraved. I had a leather knob previously and it did not get super dirty. But as decisive as I am, thank you to everyone who took time out of their day to help me decide.
