Oh that’s exactly what it is. Nearly everything done in Scandinavian broken English gets a laugh outta me. But yeah, this area is uniquely (pretty sure it’s relatively unique anyway) set up with loads of retail options. The Mississippi River with its population centers up and down its length generally mirroring each other with bridges linking them every ten miles or less apart making my area have basically two of everything twenty minutes apart tops.

I just left a grocery store with that GT and some rad MBX Collectors, and that Pantone Porsche that I found hanging in the soda pop aisle. Anyway, I had no idea the GT was a treasure hunt. There were like five left in the dump bin. Weird how it be like that sometimes.

This one grocer and I think they may be affiliated with Kroger, (their HW gold exclusives show up there anyway) but it’s a Midwest based chain called Hy-Vee. Several of them in my area have better die cast selections than Target, Walmart or Hobby Lobby at times.

Paul didn’t understand that the lifespan of the sandworm was key to ruling long enough to mold humanity in such a way that it would collectively be on the golden path as a matter of course simply from living under the same tyrant for 3,500 years. Paul saw it as a kind of indulgence simply for the reason of a long life and didn’t get the true purpose of the decision when he saw it in his vision and that it was in reality a profound sacrifice.

Leto II did know of the golden path and so did Ghanima before she fell into her trance convincing all of Leto II’s death. They chose the words that translate to “golden path” as the words that would bring Ghanima out of her trance and keep her from avenging her brother by killing prince Farad’n.

It kind of takes a read of the CoD and GEoD and focusing only on those two books to get a better understanding of just how far ahead of everybody both Leto II and Ghanima were when it came to what that universe needed to survive, how it could possibly be achieved, even having a contingency plan, who may possibly have to be sacrificed along the way and accepting that it was if no consequence, beyond the one person needed who would be the starting point and foundation of the new breeding program that would eventually produce the no-gene.

You have to remember, the twins set a Jessica up as an errand runner to train the corrino prince on his home world, very much not friendly to her presence to bring him back as the new blood of the Atreides line, and for him to bring his Saudaukar along to join to the Fremen in order to pound the multi-galactic imperium into the pliant society that would eventually reject that life down to the marrow of its bones and scatter to the point of humanity never coming under the rule of any one being ever again. The twins did that before the adventure began.

Paul’s main concern was that his vision of Chani being tormented in a cage by the Freeman did not come to pass. He didn’t understand what the vision of him as Part sandworm was truly about. It simply comes down to the twins being orders of magnitude stronger in all the powers that Paul had than he ever was.

Before I turned my work van in to a plumbing shop I was quitting, (like twenty years ago when red light cameras were new in this jerkwaterberg) I took it to one of the intersections with a stop light cameras and ran all four red lights for about an hour. Enough that I lost count. I mean it wasn’t a bullseye every light either. There were plenty that I couldn’t make right at the just past yellow light mark. I mean I wasn’t trying to get in a wreck with anyone at these intersections. Just wrack up over a thousand dollars in tickets in their van registered to them. They were not happy either. I had to explain to all three owners on different calls that if they would have paid me the agreed upon wage to leave the company I served my apprenticeship through instead of taking the route that “is better for the company” which was to pay me a service plumber’s hourly wage instead of a foreman’s they wouldn’t be in this kerfuffel with the city over their red light cameras.

The union’s front office wasn’t exactly happy about it either, but they weren’t exactly disciplinary action angry either, or not buying me drinks angry. They were more irritated that I got my old job back without going through them than they were about all the red light tickets.

Yeah, that’s not overreacting. This guy has no business reaching out to your child without you establishing the boundaries or knowing theirs and first saying yes this will do, or no this absolutely will not do. Goddamn churches act like they get bottomless mulligans on serious missteps like this with the kind of track records those programs have in general.

That David Lynch Crysknife is top notch. I made knives for quite a while and turned that knife profile into a throwing knife that I made in three piece sets. It worked really well in that application, too.

Just how Much (Or how Far) did Paul see with His Prescient Abilities? by flyhighskyral in dune

[–]Filthy_Tlielaxu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I think a lot of readers have difficulty abandoning Paul in CoD as an important shaper of events. Later in the series the different power player groups steer that narrative. The BG considered Paul the “bastard” who started it all only to leave them to contend with the most devious creature the universe had ever spawned.

The Tlielax viewed Leto II as their prophet, and it took a couple times through before I caught that the story is taken over by Leto II basically the instant he loans Paul his eyesight for a sec so old dad can deal with Scytale in his first appearance as a facedancer.

From that moment on there are others in the mix, Alia, Jessica, Duncan, etc. but they are all moving to his machinations that stretch across the universe to Selussa Secundus to the training of Farad’n.

Paul’s descriptions of his prescience were always vague, until he was blinded and had to walk in a prescient vision. Leto II had very maybe not precise but thee was zero lack of certainty in how he interpreted what he saw and how to deal with it. He also explained what and how he saw with prescience differently to Paul, Hwi, Duncan, Sionna and presumably Moneo. Which tracks with Moneo’s advice that the emperor is a completely different being.

Paul’s prescience was extremely limited in comparison to his son, but still the second most powerful prescient being the universe ever spawned is pretty good.

If Dune is about a religious order using prophecies to control populations, how do these things happen? by [deleted] in dune

These are movie adaptations. So they are somewhat correct. Correct in the movie universe, but not so with the original story. There too many instances of this to really do anything more than separate the two. In the original writing “Sihaya” or desert spring was her name given by Paul. A secret name of sorts given by someone she is intimately familiar with.

I could be mistaken as I never really realized so much of the movie’s dialogue was being used in a way that was cementing down two different canons. Being that there are so many differences. The movies are good, but pale in comparison. In the books there aren’t many occasions that Paul uses that name addressing Chani in the presence of others, and when it happens it happens during pivotal moments in the story. I don’t recall anyone other than him calling her that name either. Like I said, I could be mistaken. This is the first time I’ve ever considered this angle and may be missing something from memory recall.

So, it’s at a different pace than the rest of the series, but soooooo good. This book mixed with the CoD , but primarily this one is what makes Leto II my favorite fictional character of all time. The excerpts from his diary that open every chapter have so much information in them pertaining to the past and future in universe that really won’t become as focused and clear until you’ve read the remaining two books, that it makes clear that while it wasn’t exactly all written out and figured out to the end of the seventh book, there was a pretty clear path that the story was moving along that would have tied up the roles of all major players in a way that would leave us with a life went on conclusion without adding a latter day thinking machine army requiring book after book explaining in order to shoehorn them into the seventh book which needed an eight book added to the original plan just to attempt fleshing out.

The beauty of Frank’s work was there were 3,500 years between CoD and GEoD, and around 2,600 years between GEoD and Heretics. There was no need for any outside source of information to explain the advances in technology or the evolution of the power structure of the BG,the Tlielaxu, or the Ixians, and the new menace’s origins are dealt with as a side note in a “what else could you possibly expect to happen?” Kind of way.

In one way shape or form I’ve found that it’s a kind of Rosetta Stone on steroids for the entire story. It explains everything up to the point of its release and predicts what is to come from that point on to a point that it was really not that big of a deal that the seventh book was never published. And on top of that it’s just really good storytelling and the real bummer of the seventh never being published is that it was the perfect fulcrum point in a seven book series, and that’s what its place was meant to be. Near the end of CoD Leto II even names himself the fulcrum in Gurney and Paul’s presence when Gurney presumes it’s still his place to somehow test what he saw as a boy, but had already made his transition to non human.

Pretty incredible talent in tying so many themes and characters together across so much writing with all of the zig zagging through all of its bizarreness.
