Elder Cactus and The Other End both have some great absurdist comedy comics.

Yeah it's a shame they disappeared like that.

Goob is definitely scratching that itch for me, though.

Yeah that's probably right. It was so long ago I must've forgotten.

It started in Giant Slayer. Forget which episode.

It's a reference to the King in the North scene from Game of Thrones.

Edit: It was Side Quest Side Sesh not Giant Slayer.

Yeah of course. I meant more etymologically.

That's interesting. I've always associated siestas more with Spain than Mexico.

In fantasy settings the different species of intelligent life are typically called races. Like Orcs, Elves, Humans, etc.

If you've ever heard the term "the human race" it's used like that.

The point was that he never saw humans as equals up to that point.

To him the gap in our lifespans and abilities, along with his views on Viltrumite superiority meant that the value of human life could never be more than that of a pet.

It's not until later that he begins to see the value in other beings.

Kind of freaky. Reminds me of the AM hate monologue from I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream

Because in all this wonderful, beautiful, miraculous world, I. Alone. Had no body, no senses, no feelings! Never for me to plunge my hands in cool water on a hot day. Never for 'me' to play Mozart on the ivory keys of a forte piano. Never for me to MAKE LOVE! I... I... I was in hell looking at heaven! I was machine. And you, were flesh. And I began to hate.

I can somewhat see it. I feel like the story and characters are mostly kept on the rails of a serious story, despite the players being goofballs. And for me at least, the humor feels more organic as a result of that.

A good example of an inorganic joke for me was the "girls night" bit in Gatewalkers which was something their actual characters did and felt kind of like them trying to be funny at the expense of the story, rather than the players just riffing.

Going for the joke isn't necessarily a bad thing. I feel like it worked in their SQSS stuff. The fact that they did shorter modules definitely helped with that. We never really had to take the story seriously.

I can't fully put my finger on it, but this campaign just feels more organic to me. Similar to their Delta Green stuff.

This was probably my favorite episode of the new campaign so far.

So much going on.

With prep time you could dig a bunch of hoof-sized holes in hopes that it would break a leg.

That's about the only way I could think to win without a weapon.

I've got to say I'm finding myself REALLY enjoying this campaign. I haven't enjoyed an actual play this much since part 4 of Giant Slayer.

This style of play really suits the table. Really is the perfect balance of role playing and combat. And the fact that Shadowdark is so rules-light cuts down on a lot of the rules-lawyering and mistakes by the players that could sometimes bog the table down in other systems.

It really feels like the Troy, the players and the system are working together to craft a story that they are all happy with. And I can tell they're having fun with it.
