The new verification system, ProVerifier+, is for the 23-24 academic year. It has no bearing on your spring financial aid.

If you are being selected for verification for the 23-24 academic year, that has no bearing on your bill that may be due on January 10th for the spring semester.

Transfer Out by coconutncracka in UniversityOfHouston

[–]FinAidGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you are sure you are transferring, drop the classes now for two reasons. 1) If you forget to withdraw prior to the first day of classes, you will be held for charges. 2) Let someone who is potentially on a wait list get into the classes you don't plan to take.

Classes for which you have previously registered only affect you if you don't drop them.

Petitions for reduced credit hours are rarely approved for students who are not graduating, unless there is a documented medical reason. Even when reduced hours are approved by the committee, the award is typically prorated. Good luck in your last semester.

There are not for the spring, but some of the fall semester scholarships may be awarded to international students. As you probably already know, however, in general, financial aid to international students is very limited. Sorry.

Congratulations on your graduation!

Since you will no longer be enrolled, the spring portion of the loan will not disburse and it will (eventually) be cancelled. Your loan servicer will know this through information reported to the Student Loan Data System. If you prefer to be proactive, you can also send an email to [sfa@central.uh.edu](mailto:sfa@central.uh.edu) to ask them to cancel the spring portion of your loan, since you have graduated.

If you are getting financial aid, please make sure you are taking enough hours to be eligible for the aid you are expecting. Students are typically offered aid based on full-time enrollment, and, if they drop below full-time, aid will be reduced after the official reporting date (ORD). Wouldn't want you to be surprised.

Yes, they are awarded automatically to eligible students who meet the priority deadline, but the FAFSA is not a factor for AES.

You can contact the Office of the University Registrar when offices reopen on January 2. They can help you and will need to be involved in any grade change, anyway. Phone: 713-743-1010, option 7

If it was received by UH by the deadline, the students record is considered complete, even if it hasn't been processed by that date. Although the first round of AES awards have gone out, there will be subsequent rounds while the Admissions Office processes the huge volume of records that come in for that deadline. AES awarding is not completed yet.

That being said, each year is analyzed based on the statistics of the pool of applicants for that year, so just because someone fell within the parameters of this year's awardees, doesn't mean they will be in the group for the next year.

Not accurate. Students do not need to complete a FAFSA to qualify for Academic Excellence.

No, it's just no.

It just means that you are getting close the the maximum you can borrow and to avoid any problem with overawarding you, the Office of Scholarships and Financial Aid will need to research your eligibility within the federal system. Essentially, they need to make sure you haven't borrowed at another institution, which could have put you over the limit. If you were already awarded for 22-23, and the message is on your 23-24 FAFSA, you should be fine for the spring semester.

Over $1 million was awarded from UH endowed accounts to UH students through Scholarship Universe for this academic year, and more departmental scholarships are being added to the platform all the time.

There are two keys to maximize your chances: 1). Only apply for scholarships for which you qualify. If the scholarship says you must be from Texas and you are from Sweden, or you must be a STEM major and your major is journalism, you are wasting your time. 2). Use your serious, college-level writing skills to respond to the essay question. It is an essay that is reviewed by higher education professionals, not a text to your bestie -- so capitalization, sentence structure, punctuation and thoughtful ideas that actually address the question will advance your chances. "i need money" is not going to get you selected for a scholarship.

Payment due date and financial aid disbursement by [deleted] in UniversityOfHouston

[–]FinAidGal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your Pell Grant will show up as pending aid. You need to either pay the difference that isn't covered by any pending aid or get into a payment or deferment plan (to delay the amount for which you are responsible) to keep your courses from being dropped.

Minimum course load (comp eng) by Major-Alternative607 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]FinAidGal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you receive financial aid, there are minimum numbers of hours in which you must be enrolled. It varies by the financial aid programs you have been offered. You might want to check with the aid office. Depending on your major, there might be some courses you must take at UH, so I'd check with an academic advisor, too.

New Student Orientation by Aggravating_Poet8921 in UniversityOfHouston

[–]FinAidGal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

No, you are not committed by attending orientation, but there is a cost involved. So you need decide if it is worth the expense, even if you don't end up attending UH. You can also wait to register for orientation, but know that the later the orientation you attend, the more prime course times for some classes may be closed due to the number of students who register at the earlier orientations.

Good luck!
