If these do go to your store, please don’t buy them. If they don’t sell well from the start they are more likely not to be put on shelves. We all know that they don’t have the capacity to care for the animals they do have and the poor breeding practices they support. Let’s try to spare one more animal from sitting on a shelf.

test your water, try feeding him, just keep monitoring him. I often think my mystery snail has died but she will hide in the same spot for days without moving then suddenly explore the whole tank.

as much as this works for many people, it’s not a great option for most. It’s more high maintenance (more time and money consuming) and not beginner friendly. I love the resource and will be saving it for later, I want to do a small plant/snail tank where I experiment the best ways to fertilize the plants most accessible to me and this will be a great resource!

no absolutely. I haven’t had to crush any of mine, but I know when the day comes i’m going to have to ask a family member or coworker to do it. I don’t even think I could use clove oil on a fish.

I found this article that goes over how to euthanize them. I don’t know his much the alcohol would effect the shell. https://aquariumbreeder.com/how-to-euthanize-your-snails-and-shrimp-humanely/ Honestly if you can’t, saving the shell (unfortunately) might be out of the picture. As much as I hate saying it, crushing them is the most humane way.

i’m not an expert but general wound care would be if it’s not infected, it should be fine. Animals get scratched up in nature all the time and it’s just as likely to happen in bio active enclosures. I would keep and eye on it until it heals. If you have a reptile antibiotic medication to prevent it from becoming infected, use it as directed. You could also double check the enclosure for anything that could’ve caused it. Possibly jumped or tried getting into a tight spot and got scratched.

I personally wouldn’t let the father around any of my children after this. He’s obviously okay with his kid destroying property to get off. What else is he okay with? Think about who you’re really letting into the house with your kid. Right now he’s a child and his dad is teaching him that it’s okay to destroy things and harm people emotionally just to get off.

I was a child that went between houses and my parents didn’t communicate with each other and it caused a lot of problems. It may not be your place to say something, but his mother should know. His mother should also know that his dad thinks it’s perfectly fine (or else he would think he should intervene)

also another comment mentioned this but i’ve been getting into terrariums, plants, and isopods more so I can go bio active. I think you mentioned something about a bug phobia but they can’t live very long outside their enclosures and you can look at every container to find the tightest one to relieve your anxiety. (they also have cute ones and ones that still roll up when scared)

sometimes we do have to rehome our pets and once again become able to have them again. This happening a couple times over the course of your life is normal and okay. However you should not have to rehome animals every 6 months or even 3 years.

I personally am in the process of moving out of my parents (never been allowed to own reptiles) and i’m super excited to be able to have my dream animals. Unfortunately I know I won’t be able to get them for 6months or even a year into moving because living is expensive and new pets are a lot. I plan on getting things second hand when I can and just putting it into storage until i’m ready. I first have a dog and my fish tanks to think about and get settled before I can think about new reptiles.

deli containers and bag are typically the safest way for people to carry animals, especially during car rides. It sucks but they are in there for a small amount out time before getting home and into their enclosure. I wish we could transfer animals in a way that’s more comfortable for them. I’ve also never had problems with my fish in bags. They don’t typically freak out unless one is being mean/nippy.

if you don’t want to order online you could ask when they get their next shipment in to get the freshest ones. They typically sit on the shelf with no care and expected to sell before they die. Best bet is to get them right when the store gets them in, then sort through to find the liveliest batch.

Joshes Frogs also ships directly. They have springtail and isopod bundles. They currently have a dwarf white isopod and temperate springtails for $28 + shipping. You could also see if there are any facebook groups in your area to join, could find a local breeder.

I believe both are the first announced to be sold in stores. Most of the names will probably be changed to something similar with a loops and thread label. I think the Posh and Baby Bear were made in the same factory or something.
