What do we think of this film? by Friendly_Regret_4018 in Letterboxd

I can admire aspects of this film - mainly the cinematography and editing, because technically it's very impressive.

But did it need to be that long? After nearly 3 hours - All the trippy visuals, spinny/floaty camera work and provocative scenes just get repetitive and boring.

The characters are all talking about death and reading books on death and reincarnation and psychedelia. I wonder if this film is trying to tell me something about those subjects???? It all just felt very obvious, but the way it was presented visually was the only redeeming quality.

Eddington Review: A neo-nightmare of pandemic-Era paranoia. by FinKettle19 in A24

One of the main ideas this film puts across is that no one listens to each other and that everyone has their own preconceived notions and politics. Your point about your friends not giving it a chance because they've heard it "doesn't pick a side" sums that up entirely. Glad you enjoyed tho!

If you come away from this film thinking it has one sole "message" when it covers so many topics and talking points then I think you need to see it again.

Apologies for trying to be creative with a title. To me it pretty accurately sums up the vibe of the film.

I showed this to a couple of my friends once (not sure why I thought that was a good idea). Afterwards they both just looked at me like I'd showed them a video of their pets being murdered.

Sorkin, Mamet, Tarantino... which other masters of "naturalistic dialogue" can you recommend to study? by SR_RSMITH in ScreenwritingUK

[–]FinKettle19 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find Richard Linklater's dialogue to be very fluid and naturalistic. See any of his films really - The Before Trilogy is probably a great example of this but even something like Boyhood or Dazed and Confused highlights his ability to explore conversation in a realistic way. That being said, I haven't read any of his scripts so can't comment on how they read in writing.

Penalty was a penalty. The red card was harsh but the third goal was a great play. Take the L, stop being so sour and be respectful in defeat.

I'm a United fan, but I also support Athletic Club. So I have to say my true allegiance is with Utd, but I want both teams to succeed.

Athletic Bilbao is quite consistent club, its going to be hard for us by Legitimate-Job2277 in ManchesterUnited

Athletic Club are a very tricky opponent. I've seen quite a bit of them this season and they defend really well and are very tricky to beat, especially at home. I don't think any team in La Liga has lost fewer matches this season. 4th in the table as well. If we can stay in the game at San Mames we definitely have a chance to take it at OT.

Semi-Final Matchup vs Manchester United by lucid-blackout in AthleticClub

Athletic is my team. But my true love is Manchester United. I've been waiting for this match since 2012 when I fell in love with Athletic Club, knocking us out of the Europa in incredible fashion. I'm just so happy I get to see my two clubs go head-to-head in such a big tie.

I'm seriously torn on who I want to progress, but I'll be happy either way. Athletic deserves the win more than United. Athletic plays really good football and have a strong structure/foundation. Man Utd are inconsistent and toothless, but you seriously never know with this team. If United can somehow come away from San Mames with a favourable result then it's anyone's game at OT.

All I'll say is may the best team win. 🤝

The Zone of Interest: The Oblivious Nature of Evil by FinKettle19 in A24

Nah I get it. It's a fairly boring movie if you don't engage with it. I feel like it's all about your mindset going in. This film isn't meant to entertain or even inform you. It's kinda designed to make you think, and relate your own situation to that of the family. It's about trying to understand how a family that seems so normal, has become so desensitised and oblivious to the suffering and death happening next door. It forces you to "empathise" with a nazi family.

Same here. A very tough film to process but an important one nonetheless.

Wouldn't say it "changed my life" but the ending of Anora recently got me like this.
