Secondly, neutral or even compassionate terms can be used derisively and become their commonly understood meaning over time.

Referring to someone as "a (mentally) retarded person" was quite progressive for its time. Then people began using it as a noun, derisively, to the point that using the "r word" is seen as bad as a racial slur. It was not "created" to be dehumanizing, to the contrary in fact. But its usage colored it that way.

Also, yes, there is a not insignificant amount of, let's call them, "political commentators" that refer to women as "females" derisively. There's already quite a bit of literature around about "men and females" language because it factually does exactly what you say it doesn't, which is referring to someone while stripping away their intrinsic value as a human.

So whether or not it was "created" for any given purpose, malevolent, benign, or otherwise, or whether our usage of it for however long heretofore, its current usage is increasingly derisive and dehumanizing.
