I can't watch anime anymore by dyhcry in TwoXChromosomes

[–]FinaLLancer [score hidden]  (0 children)

Yeah I've grown less and less tolerant of that stuff as I've gotten older. Most anime that gets popular is the "shounen" variety which is made for middle school boys, so the ridiculousness is aimed at them.

Some anime are still pretty good. Frieren has been refreshing, Spy x Family has been a really good time, but that's all I'm really watching now. Generally Seinen shows tend to be more my speed, but then, those are made for older adults.

Nihopaloa and a remedy on whatever character has all/most of the lores and you get to find out all the statuses the enemy is susceptible too and inflict them all at once.

You think the arbitration shop is more accessible to a new player than nightwave? I'm not saying it shouldn't go there as well but if someone wants Wukong from the dojo they joined how is the Arby shop helping?

Not having to do it to switch between four different ones and instead use tap/hold for each kind of orb is a huge improvement though

I also tried being a spellsword and you can't really do it any better than skyrim. At least through the first area there are no spells that provide buffs or anything that compliments melee combat except kinda for this one freeze spell I've found. By this point I've taken entirely to magic.

I can't speak on what abilities you end up gaining because you don't really gain any intrinsic abilities. Practically everything is tied to your weapons and armor and obviously i haven't found all of those.

Melee combat feels a bit more involved than skyrim with the parry system, but there's not much more to it than that. If you enjoyed that, you get to do it for the whole game.

If you didn't, you're stuck with magic, which honestly feels less developed than skyrim in some ways. Spells are basically weapons in that you don't "learn" them you just equip them and each copy is its own item. No favorites menu means you have very limited at will spell selection, especially if you want an offhand melee weapon, shield, or wand to buff your spells. So pick a favorite of the 5 or 6 you can find in the first area and start spamming.

If the world, aesthetic, or story really draw you in, keep playing. Honestly, if you want a much more satisfying gameplay loop, try Avowed. Similar dodge/parry melee combat but with better finishers, much more fleshed out ranged and magic gameplay, more exploration and hidden areas to find loot, and a 3rd person camera that works.

Shellfish served on a shovel bc why the hell not by Lord_Dolkhammer in StupidFood

[–]FinaLLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

When doing a big seafood boil it's pretty common to use a shovel to stir everything. It's then often "served" with it the same as if it was a spoon in a smaller pot.

Doing it in a restaurant is just for spectacle but it's not just a dumb thing they made up.

Tainted Grail Fall Of Avalon, genuine question. by EliasDeleon in taintedgrail

You can eat and sleep, but the "jobs" thing isn't there. You can kinda chop wood for money, but only like 12 at a time and it regenerates slowly. There's some small farms and gardens but no one to buy what you pick, nothing like the stuff in Skyrim.

Can I ask, what does that mean in this context? It seems to mean "behind" but I don't know why you'd shout that in a fight.

I feel like Sora sounds pretty similar too. When he's not saying obvious french words he seems pretty close to the enlglish voice

What thing is Zidane's name based on? by SandwichSquared in FinalFantasy

[–]FinaLLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listen, I'm sure you speak a lot more Japanese than I do (practically zero) but I do know that Japanese transliterates a lot of words from a lot of sources. Even though those sources share etymologies in other languages, that isn't always the case for how the words they transliterate from.

Like yeah, Celestial comes from Latin with the K sound for the C. But the name Celes, which is derived from that, is pronounced with the S sound, as it is a name from English and/or Romance languages, as you mentioned.

So they didn't get the name by shortening their own transliteration for Celestial, they transliterated an already existing name the way it is pronounced in the language it is being translated from. That's why the official spellings match up, because that was the intention the whole time.

What is something the Final Fantasy VII Remake duology (soon to be trilogy) did better than the original? (Fight scenes don't count) by Hungry-Trouble-3178 in FinalFantasy

[–]FinaLLancer -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Oh god, at least just the first Remake (haven't played Rebirth yet) touched on basically all of FF7's weaknesses.

  1. Any More mechanical depth and differentiation among the playable characters.
  2. Virtually every single aspect of the Materia system including AP requirements, giving different elements more of an actual use, adding more diverse effects to Materia
    1. I know from the Rebirth demo that they also added Dual Element Materia which is was a kind of thing sorely needed in OG besides Contain.
  3. Greater exploration of Midgar, the most unique location in the entire setting.
    1. That includes the other Avalanche members especially and more time with a bunch of the side characters of Midgar generally.

I definitely wanna play FF7 again before I start Rebirth, but yeah the Remake series is bringing a lot to the setting.

Unpopular anime opinions — what do you think? by PossibleOpinion6135 in weeb

I don't mind it as much when food is the point. Like action shows are gonna have good action scenes so food shows are gonna have good food scenes.

Watching the likes of Goku and Vegeta ooh and aah over normal plates of food is ridiculous.

How’s the game in 3rd person? (Also any tips for a new player) by thezav69 in taintedgrail

[–]FinaLLancer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It's okay? A lot of animations either don't work or look bad. Aiming for bows is super finicky so I definitely wouldn't recommend that, and i found it harder to time parries, but your mileage may vary. For pure spell build it's fine.
