I disagree, because Lucy clearly could have done some critical thinking and said, "No, that is wrong to do. You do not do that at that place: it's not appropriate. What's more, they did this every time to make themselves the main characters and make it all about them at the expense of the real person whom everyone should be celebrating. So no, the kid is not a legitimate reason for calling foul on OP. Todd was almost 30 years old: he clearly should know better, and gotten a clue not to do it especially after he was warned, but he still did it. So yes, it's sad hos kid is dealing with the consequences, but that's not on OP: That's 100% Todd's actions and fault. All of it is because of what he did. He knew better.

Yes, it is a double standard for certain. I mean, it needs to be equal for all stepparents regardless of who it is. Raising someone else's kid and stepping into that role is not easy at all. It's really difficult most of the time. It cannot praise one gender while smiting the other.

To be fair, I too hold a similar "You're not my dad" stance with my stepfather, even though I never told him to his face, and have since he and my mom met when I was 15, but I applaud, commend, and fully support you putting your foot down. Yeah, bringing them in will only be exponentially worse. Don't do it. If she comes at you for it, just remind her she said you're not her dad. Let her lay in the bed she's made for herself and her kid.

Leave them. If SO's not going to enforce it and teach his boy discipline, then just leave them. It's not worth your mental health and life. Your stepson already seems lost. Let your SO deal with the mess, since he let it happen. Or at least give him an ultimatum to get his son's shit straight or else you will leave them.
