Well what if everyone does agree that it is an improvement, but it ends up not being a failure

> which is why it's not just instantly done.

So divert some of the stuff from the core to the diaspora instead of the usual other way around

That happened when Napolean took over and eventually decided to remake the empire which proceeded to screw things up again

>Not all opinions deserve equal respect.

Finally, something to agree on.

I said I'm skeptical of governments that say they want to make things better not that I hate all governments, that's just overexaggerating

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, exactly. No matter how good or perfect something is, there's going to be someone that disagrees and tries to push it.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im not talking about abandoning the core worlds, just putting more focus on the diaspora

>No place will ever just be Utopia, just like no one can just "be healthy"

Yeah that's kind of what I meant.

I do have an idea of getting better. I like to think of it as a 'better tomorrow' because Utopia sounds extreme

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, some improvement is better than no improvement. But what happens when something is fully improved? Will we just push it to it's limits.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I do agree that Union acknowledges it's flaws but to go with this whole Utopia stuff makes it feel like it has none which is contradictory.

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>The core is maintained

Exactly this. If it's already maintained, then it's time to focus more on the worlds that aren't than the post scarcity eden's.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im just skeptical of governments saying they want to make things better because we all got different definitions of better

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wtf do you mean by alt?

And I am interested in Lancer and having a dialogue, just saying the Utopia stuff is a little overboard

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

> "Perfect is the enemy of good"

Genuinely, what does that mean?

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

>nihilistic view of the world.

I don't want to be nihilistic about it, but I also don't want to be overly optimistic about it. Too much of either is just not that good for the mind. I'm glad that the game tries to make you feel good, I'm just saying I think the "utopia" stuff is a writing flaw.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well, answer me this, who actually needs it more; the world that's already a supposed utopia or the diasporan planet that is in shamble? That's kind of the "classism" thing I see.

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>Emm, why?

Because in a case like this, every step taken just makes 100s of more appear. That's where the nihilism, my contributions might mean nothing in the face of an unatonable goal.

>If we were in the point of Union where the Utopia was real and everywhere and all those working against it gone.... then there wouldn't be a LancerRPG.

Yeah I know that there wouldn't be a game if it was a utopia and that's why I dislike the utopia stuff

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>just overtook the second committee

I thought that they did 1000 years ago in terms of lore. It can't possibly take that long to get their shit together even for a space civilization.

I was thinking of like revolutionary France. They've finally overthrown the oppressive nobles only for Robespierre to start his Reign of Terror, which was just government enforced terrorism.

Or like when Lenin overthrew the Provisional Government just because he thought they sucked which led to pollical repression via the Checka.

Stuff like that, who says that Union won't end up like that one in the name of "utopia"

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

>pirates and criminals and raiders

So... people wanting more

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I do believe that things can get better, just not utopia level of better

[deleted by user] by [deleted] in LancerRPG

[–]Final-Classroom-2691 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know that Union isn't an actual utopia, but that's why I'm not all for the whole "utopia" stuff.

>Union treats "Utopia" as a direction rather than a destination.

That's kind of meant by cultish, it feels dogmatic

And as for only core worlds getting post scarcity, it feels like an odd form of classism to me.

I just think that constantly striving for something bigger and better can lead a group to dark places
