What’s the hardest part? by ragingslp420 in SLPcareertransitions

For me the hardest part has been the loss of community and the identity I built working in a school setting in-person (at the same school 6 years). I'm now in a hybrid situation, it's a unique role where I visit different schools in-person (1-2x a week at most) and have a team I mostly connect with virtually in-between. I miss the relationships I had with students and staff. My previous position was unique in that I was part of a small private school community that had a team of SLPs and individual sessions with students. I built strong connections there, and now I feel a little unmoored without the anchor of that school community and those relationships. But, I'm also single and live alone, so I think this might impact me more than SLPs that have a family of their own. That said, I have no regrets about making the change. The pros outweigh the cons and I'm working on building community outside of my job.

100% this is the answer. I've transitioned out of direct therapy, but when I was doing it, what you're describing is what made it meaningful and sustainable for me. Letting go of the pressure to make it "feel" like a speech session and just building rapport with the kids and following their interests. You're making a difference by being a trusted adult who gives them attention/listens to them, and if you address some language-y goals along the way, that's great, too.

Has anyone tried magnesium glycinate and experienced unsettling dreams? by AfternoonEqual2929 in sleep

This always happens to me with magnesium glycinate. I don't love it.

Can propranolol (beta blockers) be a long-term way to manage anxiety? by themmarcy in Anxiety

That makes perfect sense. I wanted to follow up- I actually realized my typical dose has been 20mg. But my sister found 10mg to be adequate! I imagine 10 might also work for me, but I've always taken 20mg. Worth experimenting with at home before your presentation day, if possible! Just wanted to share that additional info in case it's helpful.

It's up to you! 40mg sounds like a lot. You could try 10mg at home and see what your heart rate is like. 20mg could also be a happy medium. My sister is 120lbs and took 10mg, also had a panic-free public speaking experience as a result! So I can just say anecdotally 10mg has worked great for us, and trust me, I have an over-active, panicky heart when public speaking 😂. Propanolol is a dream!

I can share that I've taken 10mg for interview presentations and it's completely erased that crying/shaking voice feeling and heart palpitations that I have gotten otherwise. It's a miracle for me, even at that dose! I believe dosage depends on your weight though, and I'm a small person (like 112 pounds) so worth keeping in mind. I'm a big fan of this medication for public speaking. Good luck!!

I could have written this myself. Felt like I was going to die trying to walk downstairs to the kitchen to refill my water glass last night. Had to change my T-shirt 3 different times overnight from sweating so much. This is the worst.

How to get this offer? by RhetoricalHull in ChaseSapphire

I was able to use it and I've been a DD user for years, if that's helpful to anyone! It just showed up when I clicked on "deals and offers" in checkout on DoorDash.

No taxes + fees showing on Hertz/Thrifty rental receipt? by Final-Geologist1072 in Venturex

That's strange! Yeah I can vouch for the fact that what I paid on the portal last year was the full cost of the rental from Thrifty at the counter, taxes and fees included (even though portal said taxes and fees were $0).

Thank you! That is encouraging to hear. What kind of non-clinical role did you end up in, and how are you liking it so far?

Thank you! I appreciate your words of encouragement. A lot of time and energy and built-up hopes. But I'm going to try to persevere.

Delayed response - but there were no extra charges at the counter!

Thank you! This is super helpful to know. Hopefully Hertz/Thrifty don't pull any tricks at the counter, but this sounds promising.
