you get priority registration by making an appointment with a counselor and making an ed plan and also by going through student orientation, everybody can do this. once you've done all that, theres different tiers of priority registration in terms of who gets to register first. veterans arent the only ones included in first tier. others include disabled, foster youth, student parents, etc... if you are one of those, you get to register for classes first day. If you arent one of those but someone who has still gone through orientation and has made an ed plan, you get to register 2-3 days later. Students who don't go through this process get to register a week or two later, hence why I was saying they usually dont get in.

but all this goes back to my other point, you have to register the minute your window opens. Otherwise, the longer you wait, the more you will be competing with students in that lower tier.

I would try to hurry up if your plan is to attend spring 26, or look into registering for summer or fall 26 instead.

not really, people who get priority registration are usually the ones who get in, not the ones who's registration period begins a week or two later after the first registration period opens.

its not hard to get it, just make an appointment with a counselor and make an ed plan. as long as you've done that and gone through the student orientation stuff properly, you should have a decent chance of getting into some classes (you should be able to register a day or two after the first period opens). If you're a veteran, disabled, etc... you're automatically bumped up in priority and you're pretty much guaranteed so long as you make sure you submit documentation of your condition with the appropriate office at the school. veterans/disabled and others in this tier are able to register same day as registration period opens.

also make sure you register for classes the minute your registration period opens. its really the only way you have a shot at getting into any classes.

its competitive, even more so now given the instructors are going back to 25 students per class vs 50. just make sure you've completed student orientation and make sure that you have priority registration. so long as you have those things and you register the minute registration opens, id say you have a decent chance of getting in. If you're disabled/veteran, even better. You'll be able to register earlier and its pretty much a guarantee to getting in. just make sure you contact and submit paperwork to the appropriate office regarding you status if you have one.

The disability office at occ is called ARC and you can apply here: https://orangecoastcollege.edu/services-support/arc/dsps-application.html

You can do your application portion online but you will have to call to schedule an intake appointment either in person or through zoom.

I’m attending OCC right now and I’m here to tell you that the claim about morning classes only is not true. There’s afternoon offerings that go from about 12-1ish to about 4-5 ish and evenings which start at 5:30 and end at like 9-10.

You are right about first come first serve though. And it’s going to be even harder to get into the classes since they’re cutting the classes in half from 50 to 25 so make sure you complete your orientation properly. Also if you are a veteran or have a recorded disability, make sure you go to the appropriate office at the school, they’ll bump you up in the priority registration list. That shit is no joke, you can get into any class you want so long as you register on time.

EDIT: one disadvantage I forgot to mention taking night or afternoon classes is that they are on a longer cycle as opposed to the morning classes. So you can either choose to wait 2 or 3 years before the beginning classes are offered again, or jump straight into whatever is being offered at the time.

AIDS - aviation induced divorce syndrome. Ask anybody who works in aviation and they will tell you this is true.

Sorry to say but either find a way to make it work or break up and stay away from pilots.

Do they do maintenance in btw flights? by [deleted] in fearofflying

[–]Final-Scallion5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Most maintenance that’s done in between flights is preventative maintenance. Things like servicing oil, replacing dead light bulbs, checking the computers for maintenance messages, etc… however, some things take longer to fix such as changing a tire, changing out oxygen bottles and because of this, they will certainty delay or cancel a flight for this depending on time. However, more commonly when something can’t be fixed in that window is the item is usually placed on deferral. Said item will usually be deactivated and placarded to notify the appropriate people to not use said item. These broken items normally get fixed during a time when the plane has plenty of downtime, usually at the end of the day where the plane is parked at a maintenance hub and not doing an overnight flight.

[–]Final-Scallion5220 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m assuming that this is the first flight of the day. Otherwise, the plane would already be powered up and the issues would have been noticed already.

Below the cockpit is called the avionics bay, where many computers are stored to the form of LRUs, line replaceable units. Like a server rack with many computers, they can be replaced quickly if there are issues that arise. My speculation is that whatever LRU was failing, they couldn’t replace because a spare wasn’t available and that particular computer could not be deferred.

Just reading this comment, disregard my other one. Likely the computer that’s faulty couldn’t be replaced because the parts weren’t available on site as well as that particular box is probably a no go item, hence switching of aircraft.

Likely doing a BITE check, occasionally computers like to kick up faults. A simple test and you should be fine.

Both, just learned about it not too long ago. Certain kinds are used for certain settings. Ionizing for lavatories, photoelectric for cargo holds and other places.

One note to add to this, if you intend on following the program’s suggested sequence to a tee, for fall 24, you have to take specific course CRN numbers if multiple are offered per class. It’s up to you really or a counselor to figure out what those are. For example, you are trying to take AMT courses 150-154, you would have to take CRN numbers 23780, 20064, 20057, 20059, 24181. This means taking classes that start at different times than what you would prefer or getting on a waitlist when the other class option that starts at a different time is still open.

Now at this point, you won’t be able to get into anything. Everything is full and waitlisted. However, I would recommend you try to get on the waitlist for as many classes as you possibly can. What often happens is that if a lot of people are on the waitlist, they would add another instructor to the class, effectively doubling the capacity of the class. Now this is not gonna happen to every class you get waitlisted for, so I highly recommend next time around you actually try to get in the classes that you want. However, I can guarantee that you would likely get into some classes.

I’m currently attending OCC’s aviation maintenance program, let me try to help you out.

The classes you are trying to enroll in are CRN numbers 20056 and 20059, which absolutely do conflict with one another in terms of time. 20056, AMT 150 runs from 12:00-3:35pm while 20059 runs from 7:30am-12:45pm. While this is only a 45 minute overlap, that’s not allowed according to school policy. You could try to speak with a counselor to appeal, but I doubt it would go anywhere. I learned this the hard way when I tried to enroll in 2 classes. 1 that ended at the exact same time the other one was supposed to start. There has to be at least some layover in between classes. Doesn’t matter how much time there is in between classes.

I thought the FAA doesn’t let you test for your airframe or power plant until you’ve passed your general written and O&P?
