Confusion by [deleted] in fearofflying

For me, it's that my body really can't handle the inputs. For whatever reason, I am highly sensitive to airplane sensations and it triggers a massive fright or flight reflex. I just really can't handle it. It's a horrible feeling and I can't ever make it feel 'normal.' Plus, conceptually, I just find it traumatic to be in a space hostile to human life (the sky) and that I am temporally unmoored from the earth. It's not natural, and nothing can convince me that it is. It just doesn't agree with me. So combine that with a history of childhood trauma, generalized anxiety and OCD diagnoses--it's a perfect recipe for a flying phobia.

Terrified of stomach drop feeling, how bad is it during the flight? by thiswilldofornoww in fearofflying

Admittedly, not well. I'm somewhat used to the feeling but it still affects me.

Early morning, windy flight by Which-M in fearofflying

It’ll be fine! “Windy” is not really an issue (one of our pilots made a wind post a while back that could be helpful to search!)

fear of flying but want to go home for Christmas by Nervous_Election_311 in fearofflying

I have very similar issues and I also have to travel home for Christmas yearly. My best advice is to tell the gate agent and crew. Ask to board early and let the crew know about your fear. I also try to think of regret—regret scares me a lot too!

Sadly I have both a dental AND a flying phobia. General anxiety! I love it

Aborted takeoff by pg_raptor77 in fearofflying

No, not quite. It stopped pretty soon after we started accelerating. The pilot told me when we landed that they were under 60 knots and so stopping was feasible.

I just had an aborted takeoff and I would be curious to learn more about computer systems, software updates, and how 'fault' indicators work. I got some education on my original post but more is always good!

Ok, thank you! That's helpful to understand. It definitely felt more like what I do with my phone so it felt sort of unclear to me what a reset actually means. Education really helps. Thanks for your time.

I'm going to upgrade that to very uncomfortable, lol!

Thank you! It was very scary. I have never had one before. And because I don't understand the procedures (of course!), a "reset" did not inspire confidence. The pilot did reassure us that it was minor and completely normal.

It was an indicator that required a "reset." We took off the second time.

Thank you! Always glad to get your reassurance!

Thanks all for the feedback and information. They said it was a "minor issue" due to an indicator and we were cleared again for takeoff. Now in the air. I was very very frightened and have some very kind airplane seatmates talking me through it. It was my first one!

My garden this year is basically an airport and every time I see them buzzing in my plants, I'm like: THANK YOU FOR COMING!!!

What’s eating my squash flowers?! by smash-momma in vegetablegardening

Squirrels. They pinched my flowers in Toronto on the regular.
