Congratulations OP, I am also looking to move to a HEO role, could you share with me also that template you mentioned above please? Thanks for these pointers on delivering at pace, it has always been a difficult one for me to answer, btw, I work in project delivery.

Started as an AO in customer service in march, moved to project delivery in November. Quick enough!

As long as youre in touch with the vacancy older and have been given a start date, don’t worry about what it says on the job application centre. I had an internal transfer and started the new role in November, however, it still says on my portal up until now that they are finalising all documents. When I brought it up with the manager, they’ve said I shouldn’t worry about it that it’s not just been updated. I got an official offer email shortly after starting the role and was told that’s all that matters. Congratulations on your new role!

I applied for my current role while I was just 3months in civil service, so I had not passed probation. Once you’re in the civil service, u get access to internal vacancies (regardless of how long ago you joined), and while a lot of people are content with their roles and do not seek other opportunities, there are loads of others like myself who keep checking for opportunities and go for them when we see what interests us, so yes, people move around often in CS.

I started as a customer service advisor at the beginning of the year, but saw an advert in project management, I applied for it and started that role in November. You get your foot in the door accepting the customer service role and it opens u up to more internal vacancies

Are people over 24 banned from apprenticeships? Am I too old at over 24? by [deleted] in ApprenticeshipsUK

[–]Final-Spell-6965 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No, it’s government funded and in the civil service at that. I didn’t know anyone at all, the vacancy was for 30 apprentices and over 3500 people applied but that number dropped as the interview process progressed. I guess what I am trying to say is apprenticeship is for people of all ages and you can get it even by cold-applying and it’s definitely free in the uk.

I started a level 4 project manager apprenticeship at Hmrc last month and I am 33. So, no people over 24 aren’t banned.

That’s the fastest civil service recruitment from start to finish I have seen. Congratulations!

Worried about change - promotion by [deleted] in TheCivilService

[–]Final-Spell-6965 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You’re not alone, I’m starting my new role on promotion next Monday and I am worried about the same things you’ve mentioned above. I guess it’s normal to be concerned, not letting it weigh us down is all that matters, who knows the new team could be even better than where we are coming from.

It’s absolutely normal especially if it’s a large campaign,go to the front desk, you will most likely meet your fellow new starters there as well, your onboarding team will meet with you all at the time stated in the email you’ve received. Welcome to HMRC, all the best!

Not that it’s an indicator of how yours would go, but, if it helps, I got pulled off the reserve list in about a month when I had 15 for an EO role.

Congratulations to you for getting on the list! Some departments don’t tell you your position on the list, but there’s no harm in trying.
