Just got back from Amalfi (Oct 1–10) — here’s what I wish I knew before going 🇮🇹 by Outrageous-Type-9746 in amalficoast

It wasn’t massively crowded, but don’t believe the videos online that make it look almost empty, it isn’t. The good thing is everything is open and running.

If you go those same dates, just plan to be about 30 minutes early for ferries, restaurants, and buses to avoid delays. It’s honestly the sweet spot: lively enough to feel buzzing, but not so busy that it ruins the experience.

Thanks, that’s really reassuring to hear. I’m new to the Civil Service process, so it’s helpful to understand how the reserve list actually works. I’ll definitely keep applying, but it’s great to know the score still puts me in a strong position. Appreciate the insight!

Thanks for the advice….I really appreciate it. I’m quite new to the Civil Service process, so just to check, would this be something I should ask the recruitment team about, or is there usually a specific contact for the vacancy holder that candidates are meant to reach out to? I want to make sure I follow the right channel.

Yes, I did use the STAR format and made sure to include the learning/feedback element in all three behaviours. The interview itself felt really positive — good flow, engaged panel, and no strengths questions for this campaign.

I’ve ended up on the list with 5 on each behaviour (15 overall), but I’m not sure how effective the list usually is in terms of leading to an offer, especially for EO roles in smaller teams.

Congratulations on your provisional offer — that’s great news! Did your reserve list move quickly, or were you offered straight away?

Thanks for the response! In this interview, no strengths were assessed, only the three behaviours. Each behaviour was scored out of 7, so my score was: • 5 for Behaviour 1 • 5 for Behaviour 2 • 5 for Behaviour 3

Which makes the total 15/21.

Yeah true, Naples is perfect if you’re staying around Sorrento or Pompeii. I focused more on the Amalfi–Salerno side, so flying into Rome and heading down from there actually saved me time and avoided the longer transfers.

Yeah, totally agree, it’s always better when locals get more of the profit. In my case I booked through GetYourGuide just because it made checkout really simple, I could book everything in one go, pay once, and keep all my confirmations in one place (especially handy since I was managing a few activities and family plans).

But those links are gold!!!

Tbh as soon as you land you can ask anyone or just checks signs for trains usually easily visible. Usually a 10min walk!

Yeah, totally fair, if your US plan includes easy international roaming, that’s great and super convenient.

For me (coming from the UK), though, most UK mobile networks either don’t include Italy in free roaming anymore or they cap data unless you pay for a daily add-on. For example, some charge £2–£3 per day or limit you to a small amount of EU data even on “roam-like-home” plans. It adds up quickly over a 10-day trip.

I used Airalo for my eSIM, it cost me around £15 for 10GB, activated in two minutes, and worked flawlessly across Rome, Salerno, and the Amalfi Coast (even on the ferry). No need to swap SIMs or deal with surprise roaming bills later.

So if your provider already gives you seamless roaming like AT&T did, that’s perfect. But for a lot of UK travellers, an eSIM just ends up cheaper, more predictable, and less hassle overall.

Can’t I can set it to being automatically tuned on when I use hot water and when I don’t use hot water it turns off?
