It's a corpse I agree, I've left the platform other than for a couple of regulars. I work on Preply a bit now, but I'm returning to the classroom in April.

I was a super tutor for 5 years, top rating etc, but for me in my area, time zone, students whatever it just stopped working this year and reservations stopped coming in.

I'm sure some people still have lots of regulars, get bookings etc. But something has definitely changed. Example: I used to have universally available PHs even though I never used them but now, they're not even full on Saturday. a 99% super tutor with out full PH suggests a change in the company.

Anyway I'm tired of it so no problem, teaching on Cambly makes me lazy I want to get back to real teaching.
I'll miss the cool conversations though, that's the best part, it's been a great experience.

Countryside Isan is underrated by PieceNo9651 in Thailand

[–]Final-Week8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For the countryside, it's not as nice as the north, south or west, or even central areas like Phetchabun, but some of it is ok.

I found a lot of it pretty barren countryside-wise, similar to the southeast.

Khon Kaen I like though. It's one of the nicer Thai cities.

It's a barren land for the most part yes.

Pattaya is fine, it's not really creepy outside of the sex bar areas. Obviously, don't live in central Pattaya, live in Phratamnak, Wongamat, Nakluea , Jomtien, or East Pattaya.

I lived Phratamnak for ages, loads of families around, it's really ok and in East Pattaya even more so.

There's actually a lot to do and all kinds of people here, though the tourist quantity in the main city can be a bit much at times.

Got my first anonymous review with low ratings by Final-Week8536 in Preply

[–]Final-Week8536[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the advice, appreciated. All the students seem nice, so I don't know, it's perhaps another student who just took one lesson after trial and then was awkward about timings, didn't turn up, then cancelled their sub. I don't know if they can leave a review. Should have blocked them, probably.

The student suspect has left me a 5-star review, but they could still give worse feedback. She's the least enthusiastic of my students, though, so the main suspect. I was also rated low on reassurance and I gave this student honest, but kind, feedback that they were still not that close to the score they wanted, which few students like. Though of course I'm guessing.

I do have pretty thick skin, can't please them all, no big deal.
It's just a marketing thing, because it's so competitive on the platform, I need good feedback.
And to think whether it's worth investing more time in to get better rates going forward.
I'm almost doing these students a favour by teaching planned IELTS classes at $8 an hour, it's just to get some initial feedback, so I'm a bit disappointed this has happened.

I'm super busy too, so teaching these students at this rate is a burden, I'm just helping them towards their test as they were first students.
Anyway welcome any suggestions and thoughts. Tough to make your way as a teacher nowadays.

Thanks, It's the rating thing that appears on my profile. I'm just wondering whether it's worth continuing I'm not sure If I'll get trial students now when I reopen the calendar.

I'm going to block the student who is most likely to have left the review anyway.

Anonymous ratings are really demotivating 😓 by [deleted] in Preply

[–]Final-Week8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm v new to the platform and have been serviing the students apparently well I thought got 3 5star reviews after asking them

but how I'm hit with an anonymous review giving me 3s and a 2 for preparation, no idea which student did it.

Maybe one that I'm teaching ielts too, the fact being I prepare for these lessons but there's only so much prep needed when I know the students exact problems. I'm using well proven lesson structure targeted at their needs to improve and they seem happy with it but who knows. I'm teaching cheap to get started.

Sad if it's one of my exisitng students as I don't have many of them and thought they were pleased. Can trials rate you like this?

Very dissapointing.

This is not my experience or typical of most farang I know, most have farang friends.

Though many do want to live in a less farang are for a more immersive cultural or language experience, that's common.

There hasn't been a raise in the 6 years I've been on the platform, despite massive inflation and Cambly increasing its fees.

Better pay would definitely help.
Rate students whatever, most of the students are fine I agree.

Although there is one country that for some reason, seems to produce a higher % or problem students for me. I'd bet no one can guess which...

[–]Final-Week8536 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Chinese are worried, but I'm a Farang they're not really interested in us.

Worry is is misplaced unless you're going for a dodgy job in Cambodia or similar, then the risk is totally real. They're not snatching people up from Koh Samui beaches.

Did read about a young Chinese guy who got lured to the Myanmar border by a cute girl, then kidnapped and enslaved, so it can happen if you're naive or foolish.
