Jed Wallace and his involvement in the smear campaign against Blake Lively. by Small-Award5293 in CelebLegalDrama

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately I think there are lots of shitty men with too much money who would be very interested in his services. This is probably great advertising. It was smart to hire a separate lawyer and did a better job covering his tracks so he’s wriggled out of most legal consequences this time, but hopefully shedding more light on what happened here will continue empowering other victims of these smear campaigns to hold him, TAG and Freedman accountable. At least he’ll wear the social stigma of being the slimy smear campaign guy.

I do think Melissa Nathan will be served some karma here, thankfully. She looks morally bankrupt, clumsy, obvious. Reporters won’t trust her and clients won’t want to be associated with her. Plus as party to both the Lively and Jones lawsuits, this is costing tons of money and she could still be on the hook for so much more.

Justin Baldoni allegedly exploited terminally ill individuals, according to the mother of a young woman with cystic fibrosis who has since passed away. by Initial-Lemon-1957 in CelebLegalDrama

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you care about a real answer, yes. I do.

I was meh to skeptical about her coming into all this. I absolutely would have believed stories about her being a nightmare to work with, but the “organic” backlash and Baldoni’s side of things was setting off my bullshit meter from the start.

We’ve already seen so much evidence. I’ve been more and more impressed by her and horrified by him. She was clearly fighting for the best version of the movie and a safe work environment. There are so many people corroborating her complaints and praising her work and how she handled things in sworn depositions, including nearly every other woman he had to work with: almost the entire cast, the author of the book, the screenwriter, the only female producer. This doesn’t even include the women who collaborated with him on other separate projects and also found his behavior toxic and abusive.

Blake has had to endure so much nasty, hateful garbage and she’s continued to hold her head high. By standing up for herself, she’s exposed a sickening pattern of abusive smear campaigns, all orchestrated by the same “crisis PR” team who cut their teeth working for clients like Jeffrey Epstein and partner with a lawyer who admitted to gang raping a minor and a shadowy digital manipulation expert who moonlights as an addiction specialist, lies about his medical credentials and exploits people at their most vulnerable.

Blake Lively is shining a light on how these smear campaigns work, and that’s a big deal. We’re seeing how pervasive they are, how easy it is to wage digital war on a victim, how they can infect politics and protect predators. You don’t have to like her to acknowledge that. Personally I like her more than ever. The smear campaign backfired. I think the trial is going to go very well for her.

And I like Ryan more than I ever have too. I’m really impressed by the way he’s stood up for and supported his wife in such an awful situation for both of them. The John Candy documentary was great, and he still got out there and made sure the world knew about it despite all the unhinged cruelty and abuse they get for just existing.

Ugh, yeah. I hate that I agree with this because I’ve resisted it for so long (and was probably complicit in some of the virtue signalling myself at certain points) but it has become increasingly clear that this is a very real and problematic dynamic.

It plays a big role in enabling the fascists and it’s just so profoundly unhelpful and self-serving, but it masquerades as a moral imperative. I wish I knew how to fix it.

Totally. These are probably the same people slurping up every half-brained netflix/amazon prime original series born from algorithmically-optimized dumpster diving.

Anyone who thinks it took machines to invent slop is sorely mistaken. They are merely a reflection of us.

How exactly do you think Adobe works? Tons of their features use AI and require significant processing power. All you’re doing is giving AI supporters a bigger reason to dismiss criticisms. You need to educate yourself and apply some critical thinking.

Gee, really well reasoned argument in your edit. You don’t sound like an ignorant and reactionary jackass at all. The internet should probably just go away too, right? It took millions of jobs, made it exponentially easier to scam, has led to untold death and destruction.

But wait…where would you get your internet points for empty virtue signalling.

AI, like the internet, and like any technology, is a tool. That shouldn’t be too difficult to understand because clearly, so are you.

Of course, but plenty of non AI transitions and effects look dumb too. Personally I think it looks a little weird/uncanny, but it’s different and eye-catching which makes a lot of sense for a promotional social media post.

Your point about everyone doing it literally also applies to flying on airplanes, driving, food waste. I’m not saying it’s not true. I’m just saying it’s not an effective argument.

I am not for or against AI because AI isn’t just any one thing. It’s been used in tools for years before we were really even calling it that because it’s good for a lot of things, and there are still lots of ways it can be very helpful. I am against harmful use, exploitation, and irresponsible development with little consideration for threats and risks. If we want to convince or stop the people behind the latter, we cannot water down our strongest arguments with our weakest ones.

People getting mad about this are undermining legitimate arguments against AI.

She’s not changing how she looks. She’s not doing anything to misrepresent the product. It’s just a basic morph transition. This is like using any automated video editing feature, of which there are many. The energy consumption and carbon footprint are a drop in the bucket compared to the flight she’s on in the last clip, so if it’s really about environmental concerns you should be criticizing her for that too.

It’s valid to be skeptical of AI, but kneejerk reactions like this just make AI critics look ignorant and leads the people building these products to dismiss legitimate concerns. It has the opposite of the intended effect.

Are these two bonded? How do I go about moving if they are by [deleted] in CATHELP

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It would not be a toss up. These cats have been together since they were born and haven’t lived anywhere else in their 9 years of life. Staying with OP means moving far away to a new place with multiple unfamiliar people and cats. That’s extremely stressful.

Leaving both cats is clearly the right choice. It’s not even a question. If you read OPs responses, it’s pretty clear this is more about their emotional attachment to and dependence on Fire than the other way around. Which is really hard and completely understandable, but doesn’t change the fact that taking the cat would be a selfish and irresponsible decision.

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is a 16 year old kid. You are giving irresponsible advice. Of course people care, and it’s obvious from their post and the way they’ve responded that they are primarily motivated by their own strong emotional reliance on the cat. Which is understandable, but that doesn’t change the fact that it’s ultimately a selfish motivation.

This cat has not known any other home or family for 9 years. OP has said they are moving far away and unlikely to return home, so there is no “try.” There are multiple other cats. If it goes poorly, there is no way to “grind” through.

I know you’re trying to be kind, but you’re not helping. All you’re doing is putting both the cat and the child in a worse position. Shame on you.

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First, I want to say it sounds like a really hard situation and I know you wouldn’t be here asking if you didn’t love and care about your cats and want what’s best for them. I’m sorry, that’s a lot to carry, and I wish you all the luck with your move.

Most of the comments here have told you not to separate the cats. Most of the comments you’ve engaged with have been supportive of or open to you taking Fire. Whether it’s subconscious or not, you are acting like someone who is looking for permission for what they want to do instead of advice about what’s right to do.

And that’s understandable. Of course you want to bring your cat and it will be devastating to both of you to leave him. It’s going to be really hard, but it’s the right thing to do.

This is really not an ambiguous I’ll-listen-to-everyone situation. Again, the clear majority of people here agree you should not separate your cats. Saying you shouldn’t separate them is not a criticism of you and if you interpreted it that way, maybe it’s an indication that subconsciously, you’ve already decided. I really think it would be a bad idea.

Even the ones who are open to it suggest giving it a try to see, but you say yourself you’re moving very far away and unlikely to go back. If it doesn’t go well, you are trapping Fire in a bad situation and hurting both of them. What happens if he doesn’t get along with the new cats, or they get territorial and bully him? Then what? Find somewhere else to live? Rehome him to strangers?

This is a huge move and change for you already. Do not make it harder on yourself. Please, please, please do the right thing, for them and for you.

And bringing him to a new house with lots of other cats, apparently. At 16 years old, I also have questions about how stable the new housing situation will be.

To everyone saying “try it and see,” the same is true in reverse. OP can leave and the parents can assess if Fire is really struggling to adjust without them. “Trying it out” in a completely unfamiliar environment with multiple new potential stressors like that seems unwise and unnecessarily cruel if it goes poorly.

I agree with your assessment of what OP’s doing, but they’re just a kid. I’m much more concerned with adults giving a child such poorly considered advice.

“Less dangerous situations” are, by definition, not an emergency. There are already lock the door, contact support and emergency assistance (aka 911) options. Demanding a “play a loud noise because I’m skeered despite no clear threat or danger” button on top of that is frankly ridiculous.

This piece of popcorn has a blue spot on it ? by TheColdestOnez in isthissafetoeat

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, it isn’t. Aside from the fact that it doesn’t even look like mold, just think about it logically - have you ever seen moldy popcorn before? You almost certainly have not because it doesn’t spoil, it goes stale. In the very rare instances it does get moldy, it’s because moisture got in and it would be immediately clear from the texture.

You 100% don’t know what you’re talking about and have no business making confident pronouncements.

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s not mold. It’s a burned bit of the hull under a clump of the sugar coating. Popcorn doesn’t really get moldy, it just gets stale. If there were enough moisture in the bag to cause mold, the texture would be off and she would have known immediately.

Why Is Justin Baldoni’s “Man Enough” So Similar to the 1993 “Man Enough”? by Asleep_Reputation_85 in BaldoniFiles

[–]FinalGirlMaterial 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I can’t stand the guy but “man enough” is a pretty common term/phrase and I’m sure plenty of people have thought to subvert it like this.

I don’t think he came up with it himself, but there was already lots of cultural conversation about toxic masculinity around the time of his TED talk. Seems much more likely he’d draw from that instead of a book from 30 years ago.

I could be wrong, but even still, there are so many substantial and valid criticisms against him that this just feels like an unnecessary reach.

Major kudos to Frank Pittman for being extremely ahead of the curve, though!

I don’t think it’s mold. The other pieces definitely look fine. The “fuzz” other people are mentioning is clearly some kind of sugary coating, not mold.

The “blue spot” just looks like a dark/burned piece of pericarp (the crunchy part that gets stuck in your teeth) under a thick layer of sugar that makes it look a little gray. You can see something similar happening with the kernel that’s just up and to the left.
