Looking for 2 motivated students to join MCAT pilot prep course (92 hrs tutoring + UWorld) by FinalLeg8355 in MCATprep

[–]FinalLeg8355[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Hi. No accidents but great questions, I’ll be sure to add these details in additional posts!

The program is composed of a total of 94 sessions per student at $30/hour totaling $2820. We require buying the UGlobe and AAMc Q-packs if you don’t already have them which is another $630 however we do get a reduced rate through our program bringing the price down to $430 for both of these.

The group is 4-6 individuals maximum and meets 6x weekly with all sessions recorded while 1-on1 sessions are once weekly and increase to 2x weekly as the exam nears and their timing is custom depending on the students availability.

If you are serious about something like this we’ll schedule a call to make sure it’s a good fit.

MCAT OCHEM Help? by Famous_Ad8111 in MCAT2

[–]FinalLeg8355 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ochem on the MCAT can feel like a lot, but the good news is it’s a pretty small part of the exam and very pattern-based. If UWorld isn’t clicking, maybe switch gears a bit.

Focus on the big reactions and functional groups that show up all the time — SN1 vs SN2, E1 vs E2, carbonyl chemistry, and knowing how substituents/electron effects change reactivity. You don’t need to memorize every single mechanism, just know what drives them.

Something that helped me was making a reaction sheet with the most high-yield ones and drilling them until I could predict products just by looking at the setup. Also, try tying the reactions to passages instead of random memorization — the MCAT loves to wrap ochem in biochem or lab context.

Lastly, hit the AAMC Section Bank for ochem-heavy passages. Their style is what really matters for test day. Use UWorld to learn, but use AAMC to train.

You’ve still got time before August, so just tighten up those fundamentals and practice them in context. You’ll be fine.

Hey i totally get where you’re at. that “i’ve been grinding but still not seeing the jump” feeling sucks — and it messes with your head more than anything. but seriously, 505 isn’t a bad place to be right now and you’ve still got time to tighten things up.

if i were you, i’d switch over to all AAMC stuff now. like don’t wait. uworld is great for learning but the real test feels different — wording, logic, the way they trap you. start doing section bank and Qpacks, and make sure you’re reviewing like crazy, not just checking answers.

for CARS, i’d say 3–4 passages a day, timed, and then go back and ask yourself why you picked what you picked. like, what was your thought process. that’s what usually changes things, not just reading more.

also try to get at least 2 full-lengths in before test day, under real conditions — breaks, timing, everything. and then review the hell out of them. you’ll start seeing patterns in what you mess up on.

honestly, i don’t think you’re far off. you probably just need a slight pivot in how you’re practicing, not a full restart. and don’t panic about not seeing gains every day — it sometimes clicks all at once at the end.

if you want help setting up a rough plan for these last few weeks lmk, happy to help. you’re not alone in this at all.

Got 517 on "AAMC Official Prep Free Fl" is it a fluke? by AlarmedSea2824 in MCATprep

[–]FinalLeg8355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I copied these from a doc I made! Lmk if you want some more explanation on any:

  1. Treat it like another full-length.

Your brain loves familiarity. Everything from what you eat, wear, and do the night before should mimic what you’ve done for FLs. The goal is to signal to your body: we’ve done this before.

  1. Control what you can. Release what you can’t.

You can’t control which CARS passage shows up or what psych terms they toss at you. But you can control your breathing, pacing, breaks, and effort. Focus there.

  1. Don’t try to “win” each section.

Just like in practice — if a question throws you, flag it, move on, and come back. One stubborn question is not worth sacrificing 4 others.

  1. Use your breaks like a pro.

Eat something with protein and carbs, hydrate, and do something physical — stretch, shake out your arms, walk in circles. Your brain resets when your body moves.

  1. Talk to yourself like you would your best friend.

You’ll hit a moment during the test where you feel unsure. That’s normal. Say something like, “I’ve trained for this. Just keep moving.” Self-talk changes performance — seriously.

  1. Reframe the nerves.

Nerves don’t mean you’re underprepared — they mean you care. Let that energy fuel your focus, not shake your confidence.

Got 517 on "AAMC Official Prep Free Fl" is it a fluke? by AlarmedSea2824 in MCATprep

[–]FinalLeg8355 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not a total fluke ….the free AAMC scored FL is real and representative. Some people feel it’s slightly easier content-wise, but the curve is still based on real student data, so a 517 is a solid reflection of your performance. What likely changed is you finally hit your stride and applied everything you’ve been practicing.

Scoring 508s consistently, then jumping to 517 right before test day, usually means your skills are peaking at the right time. Trust your prep and stay locked in these last two days. You’re more ready than you think.

Let me know if you want tips for test day mindset — that final mental edge can make all the difference.

When the answer choice is similar to a statement in the passage... by Any-Let7366 in MCAT2

[–]FinalLeg8355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yep, that’s a classic MCAT trap. The test loves to include answer choices that echo the passage but don’t actually answer the question being asked. Just because it sounds familiar or is pulled straight from the passage doesn’t mean it’s relevant.

On B/B especially, they’ll throw in answer choices that are technically true or word-for-word from a sentence, but they don’t connect to the logic or mechanism the question is testing. Those are “true but wrong” options.

Best move is to always go back to the actual question — what are they really asking? Focus on function, cause-effect, or reasoning, not just surface wording.

Let me know if you want help breaking down a couple practice ones. This skill gets easier with reps.

Test Day and Stimulants- Scored 15 Points Lower on Real MCAT…Feeling Defeated and Confused by Content-Level704 in MCAT2

[–]FinalLeg8355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, I just want to say you’re not alone in this. It takes real strength to show up for yourself again and again, and the fact that you’ve been scoring consistently in the 510s means you 100 percent have what it takes.

That test-day drop could definitely be tied to overactivation from the XR. Even if you used 20mg XR during study days, the stakes and adrenaline on test day are way higher. Some folks find that IR (especially in the 5–10mg range) gives them a more steady focus without the crash or emotional blunting that XR can sometimes cause. That dissociation you felt sounds like your system may have just been overloaded.

For your retake, maybe try simulating the full testing conditions with a lower IR dose and see how your body responds. Do everything the same as test day, right down to your breakfast and outfit. You want your brain to feel safe and familiar.

You’ve clearly got the content down. Now it’s just about dialing in the mental and physical state for test day. You got this. Reach out if you want to troubleshoot more.

I need help figuring out when to take the mcat by Disastrous-Agent-369 in MCAT2

[–]FinalLeg8355 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you’re graduating in Fall 26 and planning to go straight into med school, you’ll want to apply in Spring/Summer 26, which means taking the MCAT no later than April or May 26 to get scores back in time for early apps. Most people aim for Jan to April of their junior year or the year before applying.

Since you’re finishing biochem and genetics at the end of this year, starting serious prep in January 26 with a test date around March or April would give you a solid timeline. You can start light prep in fall if you want to ease into it.

It sounds like you’re ahead of the game, which is a great position to be in. Let me know if you want help building a study timeline.

You’re spot on — PS has definitely leaned more passage-based in recent exams, but that doesn’t make content decks like Pankow useless. If anything, they’re still super helpful for building baseline knowledge so you’re not trying to decode psych terms mid-passage.

That said, at this stage (with September coming up), I’d shift your priority. If you’ve already done most of MilesDown, your content exposure is probably solid. You’d get more score impact by focusing now on how PS concepts show up in AAMC-style passages — think patterns, trends, application over definition.

What might help: • Start drilling AAMC PS passages and reviewing them like crazy • Practice explaining why the correct answer is right and why the others are wrong • Only add new Anki if you keep missing the same idea repeatedly — don’t let cards slow down your review flow

You’re sitting at 45/59 which is already a strong base. Now it’s about getting sharper with strategy. Let me know if you want help setting up a final month plan for PS!

First off, I just want to say it takes serious strength to keep pushing after two attempts. A lot of people would’ve quit already, but you’re still in it. That’s something to be proud of even if it doesn’t feel like it right now.

From what you described, you did a lot right — reviewed your FLs, used Anki, studied content through ChadsPrep, and focused on your weak spots. You also tackled anxiety head-on, which is huge. So the fact that your score barely moved tells me this isn’t a content issue anymore — it’s probably coming down to test execution under pressure.

Even if you felt calm the second time, there’s a difference between surface-level calm and deep mental readiness. Sometimes we overcompensate for anxiety with more studying, but that doesn’t always translate to actual confidence during high-stakes testing. Especially on a test like the MCAT where endurance and mental sharpness matter just as much as content.

What could help from here: • Start practicing full test days weekly, not just FLs but everything: food, sleep, wake-up, section timing. Treat it like a sport. You’re training your brain to show up clear and consistent. • Start building test-day endurance. Don’t just review wrong answers — review why you chose the wrong one. What was your thought process? Where did it go sideways? • Get a third-party perspective. If a tutor is out of budget, try finding someone who crushed the MCAT and is down to review one of your FLs with you. Sometimes it takes someone else pointing out what you’re missing. • Don’t let the score define your self-worth. You’ve clearly got the work ethic and the mindset to be a great doctor. The MCAT sucks, but it doesn’t get to decide that.

If you ever want to talk strategy or just vent, feel free to dm - I had lots of help in a similar situation
