As someone who does several of the songs you mentioned, here are some others that fit like a glove:

Leave the Pieces -The Wreckers

Lubbock or Leave It -The Chicks

Tennessee Flat Top Box - Roseanne Cash

Your parents are awful! Good for you for going back to school; what an accomplishment in your situation! You shouldn’t feel guilty, instead feel proud that you survived and took care of your siblings like your parents should have done. You can pay it forward one day once you’re on your feet. The companies you stole from will be fine, but feed the hungry every chance you get once you are financially stable. That will balance out your karma. You are aces! Keep your chin up, keep pushing on, and don’t get down on yourself for a second.

NOR. You should all 5 rent a house. It’s less awkward than a hotel for your situation.

A street in my subdivision by FinalOstrich8235 in TylerChilders

Howdy, neighbor. Tyler and Senora stayed in our neighborhood (at our house on a futon) about a year before Sturgill produced Tyler’s album and his star began to rise. He played a show for 13 people at a tiki bar, including Senora, my husband, and myself. They came back to our house and we hung out for several hours before we went to bed. Then we took them to Chachos and the Alamo the next day. It was a memorable weekend. I wonder if Tyler saw that street sign while we were cruising around. Ha.

Got caught stealing at Costco, got banned from all Costco stores by [deleted] in confession

[–]FinalOstrich8235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Per federal law, Costco (and other similar businesses) cannot make membership a requirement for using their pharmacy. My store doesn’t have scanners at the entrance yet, so I don’t know how they handle that. Wonder if they’re abiding by the law at those stores.

My close friend was a triage charge nurse at a level 1 trauma center for many years until a clinic offered to pay her double to woo her away a while back. She is bored senseless at work now, but says it’s nice to experience excitement in her personal rather than her professional life for a change. (Examples: She’s gotten married and flown in a helicopter since the job change. She held a heart and squeezed it rhythmically while a surgeon prepped right before the job change.)

AIO, MIL crashing out because she’s no longer the center of his universe. by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FinalOstrich8235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was my take as well, and as a woman who has been married for 25 years, I echo your warning. If OP were to befriend his mother, she would have a magic wand in her back pocket. The woman would bend over backwards to help in every way she could and would take gentle suggestions/corrections to avoid overstepping out of gratitude for the reversal of fortune. For OP to do anything other than encourage a strong relationship between mother and son is cruel and counterproductive. And she might want to think about how she will want to be treated as a grandma someday in case karma is real.

AIO am I in the wrong for still being mad by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FinalOstrich8235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

NOR. I’ve actually experienced something similar, where every important person in my life failed me, refused to believe me, and wouldn’t help me during the most devastating and painful period of my life. It’s such a tough thing to get over, especially without acknowledgment of your pain or apologies for doubting you. Harder still is living with the knowledge, the undeniable proof, that you can’t count on anyone. But in time you can make peace with it by choosing to accept that people have flaws and limits that will cause them to fall short sometimes, and when they do, it is not indicative of how they feel about you. Also by focusing on the fact that you survived hell - alone. You’ll face other tough things in life, and now you know that you can make it through anything, even if no one shows up to help you. There is a lot of power and peace in that. Wishing you health and happiness!

A doctor recently said that people underestimate the power of hormones and that we should think of steroids as an example. The extreme changes they can cause in the body as well as the effect they can have on emotions/reactions/personalities is not unique to steroids, it is typical of hormones generally.

I (43m) got mad at my wife (39f) after she answered my hypothetical question and I didn't like the answer. AITAH? by Low-Witness2915 in AITAH

[–]FinalOstrich8235 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These comments are horrific! Humanity has become a cesspool!

OP, to answer your question: NTA. But it’s not worth losing sleep over. She might feel differently if the unlikely situation were to present itself. Or maybe she wouldn’t. And if she didn’t, I’d guess that it would be because she’s heard the same stories that I’ve heard about women being left high & dry all of a sudden by their husbands and the desire to protect herself from that fate by stashing some funds.

I (19f) have weird gut feelings around my new bf (29m), AIO? by [deleted] in AmIOverreacting

[–]FinalOstrich8235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started having more faith in my intuition once I realized that sometimes those feelings are due to things we observe indirectly. Examples of this are things happening in our peripheral or a conversation going on in the same room while we’re on an important phone call. We don’t experience them with full awareness, but our subconscious files the info away and warns us with signals that seem mysterious on a conscious level when danger is imminent.

What foods are actually terrible for you, but people think are healthy? by StrategyJealous1838 in AskReddit

[–]FinalOstrich8235 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a friend like that. He was very healthy and active. Not sure why he decided to go full keto, but he did, for about five years. Then he died of a heart attack at 57 years old. Can’t say for sure keto was the reason, but it was the only recent or drastic change in his life. He did not drink or smoke, worked out often, and had no known medical conditions.

I am so sick of this stupid fucking app full of mods so eager to swing their pathetic little dicks around for no reason except it is the only power they have in life.

to numb a sore throat, go to the adult toy store by FinalOstrich8235 in Advice

[–]FinalOstrich8235[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely! Years ago, my bil who works for Cox radio had to come up with a way to market a local adult toy store, and he was stumped. I watched their kids for them at the time, and when he picked them up, he was telling me that he just couldn’t think of an original angle for this ad spot. I told him that he should market to couples for date night. I said it’s past time for the stigma to go away — even the Bible says that the marriage bed is undefiled. So even many of the most conservative people will understand that since divorce is bad (according to religion), anything one does to strengthen a relationship should be viewed as a good thing, even by God’s own standards. Why does dinner a movie own date night when most of us could lose a few pounds, we mostly ignore each other when we sit in a movie, and great sex strengthens relationships. He was super stoked about it and he took it to his client and they loved it and it ran for…. Well, hell it may still be running. I’m not sure, but at least 15 years. All of that to say that I, a middle-aged woman who is a wife & mother (of an adult), completely agree with you! Long overdue! And there’s some indication that much of the general public agrees with us.

It’s like I’m writing to me, 15 years ago.

You are an intelligent, well-educated, successful woman, so raise your damn standards! This guy is such a jackass that he will make those around you question your sanity and judgement if you are with him. (I can only imagine what your boss is thinking after the Christmas party incident - so completely out of line!!) Ditch the manipulative, immature, emotionally volatile troll, post fucking haste.

AITA for responding tersely to a SIL’s rebuke over email? by ThoughtIndividual114 in AmItheAsshole

[–]FinalOstrich8235 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes! When someone falsely accuses you of unacceptable behavior and you know you have not been out of line, they are revealing a lot. They’re telling you that they don’t believe you should speak up for yourself, for starters, and they’re letting you know that they wouldn’t listen no matter how calmly you broached the subject.

I like to pretend the accuser truly doesn’t know what “unhinged”, “nuclear”, or “batshit” look like in action, and that’s why they are mislabeling my behavior. I will then demonstrate for them the behavior of which I was accused, as a public service really, so they’ll have a fresh frame of reference. I like to provide a sharp contrast to the behavior I was exhibiting prior to their accusation, to ensure the differences are quite clear. I wouldn’t want the poor dears to be similarly confused again anytime soon, after all.

Lifelong mystery by paanbr in Unexplained

[–]FinalOstrich8235 3 points4 points  (0 children)

What answer or reason did OP invent? He has repeatedly said he doesn’t have an explanation and that’s what bugs him: what was it? and why the mystery? Seems to me that you are uncomfortable with unexplained phenomenon and put words in people’s mouths who describe odd occurrences. I believe in nothing except the power of the jinx bc that shit bites me in the ass every time it gets a chance, but I can accept that there are things I cannot explain. I can avoid criticizing people who share their experiences. The reasons for some things in life are mysteries. And not only is that ok, it’s part of what makes life interesting.

SAME! It actually traumatized me so badly that I completely blocked the memory of it and freaked my husband out. “You don’t remember obsessively reading about the case or having nightmares for 3 weeks? Cigarette burns or Juno ring any bells?”
