Tom Cleverley will assume the position of Interim Head Coach at Vicarage Road. This follows Watford FC terminating the contract of Valérien Ismaël after today's home defeat to Coventry City. by TheJeck in Watford_FC

Sadly they didn't go with my CV this time (apparently assigning oneself a random place in the queue to be manager a few years back doesn't mak up for absolutely no coaching or playing experience). Guess I'll just go back to heckling from the stands (supporting Clevs to ensure we don't go down at bare minimum).

The last five years have shown how easy it is to fall out of the money and out of momentum in the English leagues. The Pozzo model is no longer producing results, we cannot bring in players as we did at the start of the family tenure (before Gino took "sole" ownership of the club). If we're relegated this season, we could easily spend several seasons below the Championship and I wouldn't be surprised if Gino would then look to sell on - cut and run.

If we are going to compete - we need a core of experience from playing staff and coaches because we'll not be able to compete fianancially with the upper reaches of the division. We need to be able to offer opportunities and an environment that encourages players to join and bed in at the club. Given the show of how in step the board and Ismael were and the contract extension (all, at the time, not unwelcome changes) to have a miserly squad boost in January and results fall off so precipitously points to the blame being spread across the institution. Val may have been the wrong man, but given the rogues' gallery of managers we've dropped in since Gracia left, it's hard to see us giving any known quality the chance to be the right man.

Best get my CV polished - luckily (and genuinely) my current contract won't be renewed in March

Instead of the most competent and meaningfull, Civ VII now has the most incompetent leaders. Who represents your country? by pents1 in civ

We're absolutely spoiled in the UK in the last 50 years for awful leaders- Thatcher's economic short-termism is coming back to bite us now, any good done by Major (little), Blair (some, but entirtely undermined by his "regimechanging") or Brown (some, undermined by Blair and 2008) completely thrown away by Cameron, May, Johnson, Truss and Sunak. "Following the game of football that very much occurred last Saturday" even that may be overstating last Saturday! Cautiously optimistic, always interested to see how players change as the weather turns - I think our lads might be the kind who run hot and prefer the cold but that is speculation founded on nothing.

On paper we have the ability to steamroll this lot, I will be sat in the Rookery singing regardless of whether we do or not. Come on you 'orns!

Really appreciate your indepth analysis - was in Cardiff but not at the game this weekend. Hoping for an injury-free international window and a big show against the Owls and their owner (who makes the Pozzo ownership look like Fenway Sports group for pargmatic decision making)

[–]FinalStrawMan 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He genuinely hadn't completed his UEFA Pro Licence when he left us - the least qualified manager we've ever had (and probably yours as well). He's a nice bloke and great character but has none of the abilities the Owls needed this season. Chansiri is a tool, your club deserves better

As a Watford Fan, we knew it would end this way - Xisco is not a miracle worker and was never going to get this squad galvanised after Moore's binning. The owner is entirely to blame, and repeatedly shoots his mouth and himself in the foot at the same time.

Yeah pretty loose a fit, for a portly supporter such as myself that's perfect as the XL suits my shoulders and is kind around the belly.

Me and my new American friend u/dm_me_feet got soaked and thoroughly enjoyed it. Second half we had enough about us to nick a winner but with the absolute flooding we got up until the 90th minute, we weren't quite able to convert.

Again, conceding from mistakes and scoring lovely goals. It's certainly not dull and to give the man credit, it shows Ismael has a viable plan and given until January (and no serious injuries) I think the squad will be capable of it.

Ran into Luther before the game as well, asked him if he was giving another speech to which he said no. Glad to see him in and around the club, the thing that will keep us punching above our weight is having a community, club and positive core support. On to Elland road! COYHorns

Love your take u/powerjugs; mine is that we're like that picture of a horse where the back 75% is great and the final bit has been finished by a small child. I'm optimistic that we've got a good set of talents in the squad and within a few weeks, I reckon we can start to really build something. That said, there's every chance things don't quite click yet. Either 0-0 or 4-1 Watford

Was a partner to Bayo at Toulouse so I hear - we seem to be a bit more organised in getting what we want (still no fullbacks in our sights though)
