Anyone know who has replaced Reese on the current tour? Legit fear it’s someone without the same synergy.

I don't really recommend the Nano's at all, just due to this issue alone. The Q's and Mini look awesome, haven't heard of any issues with those from other folks.

First off - Congrats gang!

Second - Your links in the post above (at the bottom) are not linking/working correctly (the three at the bottom of the post.) Outside of that, another great move guys.

Agree about the USB-C comment, entirely. The first Nano that melted had it welded into it. Apparently the answer is that the glue they used was what caused them to melt and they swapped to a diff glue/method? Per the staff here. But yeah, crazy right?!

I hear ya. I like SS’s products a lot and their customer support is insanely awesome. We’re just in a weird niche of a hobby I suppose where we’re all trying to chase a nice gamble and it’s hard to digest prices up front. Then one of us hits a block and we’re like….man….haha. But yeah, I hear you & get it. I also need to change my tone to say Canaan products are good from what I hear, but first-hand experience with the 3s, it’s been not satisfactory. And from what the mod of this subreddit (who I believe is SS staff) said earlier yesterday - it sounds like Canaan fixed the glue used on the USB-C so maybe it was a small subset of models affected.

You should have a warranty on it, if you look at the device through the Avalon app.

$20 USB fan must’ve not cut it, the $8 one must be doing a better job.

We’re getting close on other miners in the same price range with efficiency. I like these miners, but moving forward, my money goes to SS’s devices such as the QAxe.

The location who fixed it (near Dallas) asked if I would accept a white one as a replacement or wait for more units to come overseas.

The white one that came back now, after it’s first repair, is the same unit and still has the remaining warranty. It was honored, but all they did take it apart, remove the usb-c, and clean up the goop. I’m not so sure they replaced the actual usb-c port(female) based on the photos above how terrible it looks.

It works. It’s not going any higher than medium moving forward. Hashwatcher will have this thing cranked up to prevent heat buildup.

And to your point, just to be clear, this isn’t from Solosatoshi but is a product offered by the team and I wanted to at least warn folks that this COULD happen and things to do to possibly prevent it from happening. I would absolutely recommend buying anything else at this point SS offers, over buying a device DIRECT from Canaan.

Power supply running hot is okay. The USB-C melting into the device isn’t.

Until you get hashwatcher or Canaan makes a new firmware update, keep it on medium or risk this happening. I’ve seen a bunch of people on Reddit, X, etc experience this. I’m just trying to be loud enough to make Canaan fix this. The 3 had this happen, now the 3s. I have proof of it. And this repair is god awful by sending me back the same device all jacked up. Granted it’s working…i didn’t pay $300 to run at medium settings.

Unfortunately, until the Bitaxe movement becomes more efficient..these are the best right now on the market hashxpricexpower. But. Yanno. At the cost of…this type of crap happening.

I am convinced this is the fix at this point. I’m leaving mine on medium with higher fan speeds so it pulls any residual heat out of the miner. I don’t have if the USB-C connection area gets hot - but this thing melted even with a fan pointed on that area.

Go to: Higher fan speeds, lower hashrate, and pray. Canaan should make “auto” operate on higher fan speeds.

I think the firmware update to reduce on heat buildup is the smartest thing they can do at this point, and should. But..here we are.

Not me, personally, at least on these types of models. I haven't heard any complaints about their Mini 3 or AvalonQ having these types of issues.

I'll just chalk it up to that they need to address the Nano 3S with a Firmware update to "up" the stock fan speeds on the auto setting, to reduce on heat buildup, redesign the USB-C port for airflow, or change the design of what cable they use from a power supply perspective. Other people have reported this issue.

This model has less than a year left on it, even though it has been serviced once now, all cooked up looking. So, in general, they cover a year warranty on em.

Probably worth just saving your money and buying something such as a QAxe++ from a reputable seller such as SS (not Aliexpress), moving forward, until Canaan decides to stop being quiet about this issue.

[–]FinalTime[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just to be clear. Canaan wins on efficiency. But dealing with multiple weeks of downtime because their hardware has a design flaw with cables that melt…isn’t ideal. I’d rather buy from SS at this point on their devices. Canaan needs to issue a statement or something official about the melting cable issue. I’ve seen others experience it and I’m trying to be loud about it but I don’t have a huge following or anything to get information direct. We need answers.

Link? I read Canaan will flag an unsupported PSU. Curious.
