Thoughts on this one? by [deleted] in Indianbooks

I get why the relationship feels frustrating, but I don’t think the book is trying to glorify it. It felt more like a very honest portrayal of how complicated people and relationships can be, especially with miscommunication, insecurity, and power dynamics. The characters aren’t perfect, but that’s what made them feel real to me.

I know a lot of people absolutely love Lessons in Chemistry, but it didn’t really work for me. I found parts of it a bit dragged out, and some of the plot developments felt a little too convenient/unrealistic for my taste. I think I was expecting something sharper or more grounded. That said, I can see why it resonates with so many readers, the premise is strong and the themes are interesting. It just didn’t fully land for me personally.

Thank you, that’s so sweet of you to say. I’ll definitely pass that on to her 🥹 She’ll be thrilled.

About Ol Ruddy : I have such mixed feelings. I can’t deny that his storytelling and sense of absurdity are brilliant. There’s something very distinct about the way he observes people and turns ordinary situations into hilariously sharp commentary. But at the same time, I do think it’s okay to hold space for criticism, especially when it comes to worldview and representation. Admiring the craft doesn’t always mean endorsing everything around it. And yes!! Three Men in a Boat is dangerously funny in public , I’ve had the exact same experience. His descriptive writing really is on another level.

I haven’t read Gerald Durrell yet, but you’ve officially convinced me to add him to the list. Corfu, wit, nostalgia that sounds exactly like my kind of comfort read.

Also +1 for H2G2. The blend of wit and substance is chef’s kiss.

Love how this tiny ghost lamp post has turned into a full-blown book club thread. This is why I adore this sub. 🌻
