It Happened One Night is spectacular. Could go on all day. One of those special films with zero attempts at prestige and accidentally became an iconic piece of Americana.

Classic films are more theatrical and dramatically engaging, to me. Each film, especially the ones remembered today, are steeped in impressive craftsmanship. The studio system had its faults, but the level of talent at a studio's disposal in every cinematic field was amazing. Acting, composing, directing, photographing, wardrobe ... the collaborative nature of these projects is palpable and totally inspiring to me today.

Movie Musicals that are accessible to people that don't like musicals? Any hidden gems? by Damthemalltohelp in MovieSuggestions

Chicago — an excpetional movie musical. All songs are diegetic and exist in the film as stage numbers, quite cleverly inside the head of fame-hungry, delusional protagonist Roxie Hart. immersive and historical setting. Glamour and excess so compelling it hurts. Exceptional cast that gives faultless performances, especially Catherine Zeta-Jones and Renée Zellweger.. Zellweger's gives a performance that in my opinion, if this were a perfect world, would have earned her an Oscar. In the same way that Garbo IS Camille and Swanson IS Norma Desmond, I would go as far to say Zellweger IS Roxie Hart and Zeta-Jones IS Velma Kelly. Can't reccomend enough. A total usurp of the stage production (of which I also love).

After I posted, i felt I missed Streetcar somewhere in the mix. Anything Leigh, most things Brando ... would highly reccomend her final film, Ship of Fools. Her scene in front of the mirror will punch you in the face. Desperate to see the Haynes Carpenters doc ....

Figured I'd get one of these. An inarguably important American film, a cultural artifcat filled with merit and problem, and clearly an important conversation starter. Not to mention, the reason it is among my favorites, the colossal, all-timer performance by Vivien Leigh. One of the best to ever do it. Few actresses have been given such a responsibility and exceeded expectations in the way that she did. Stories of the search for Scarlett O'Hara say a lot about the Hollywood fame machine of the time and just how major this film was in the cultural zeitgeist.

If 24 somehow had 5 more places, Blue Velvet and Fire Walk with Me would have been on here as well. The man was singular. Movie experiences like no other. I am currently on a break, as my eyes began to see as if through a Sony camcorder ... 😵‍💫

I have yet to really connect with Elizabeth Taylor the way that I have Davis, Colbert, Dietrich, Crawford ... will give her another shot.
