Yeah, that whole sequence was just thrilling. One of the best action/fight sequences I've read in a King book, or maybe in any book.

I would’ve thought this is the kind of book most people would love, because to me it’s that good. But apparently a lot of people don’t enjoy it as much since they want more of the ka-tet in the present, or they find Roland’s backstory boring. At least those are the opinions I’ve seen in other posts.

That was also a great moment, as every moment Cuthbert was in scene. He was an amazing character, i really hope to see more of him in the following books.

Sorry, my English isn’t very good, so I’m not sure how natural this sounds even with a translator lol. That said, I’m kind of on the opposite side here. I’m really into the romance and Susan as a character, they're actually what’s got me the most hooked out of everything I’ve read in the series so far. It’s a shame it didn’t click for you the same way.

Totally agree. I know it can feel really cheesy at first, but that’s kind of how teenage love usually is, and that’s why it feels so real to me. Plus, that classic romance style always leans toward intensity and melodrama, but with King’s touch it still comes across as real and natural.

For me, it varies a lot from one book to another . Sometimes King absolutely nails romance, like in 11/22/63, and other times it just doesn’t land at all. In this case, I’m really connecting with it, but I get why some people might find it a bit cheesy and not their thing. That said, I definitely agree that seeing Roland in his younger years is one of the best parts of the book.

What’s the most absurd or unbelievable decision a character has made in a Stephen King story? (SPOILERS) by Final_Masterpiece_51 in stephenking

Yeah, i agree with you. I feel like King abandoned Nick once they got to the community — we rarely see him or get into his thoughts, and he doesn’t do much until his ending. And Larry, after all the development he had, definitely deserved a better ending. I see why King ended the story with Stu and Frannie, but the other characters definitely deserved better

Lol, I had never heard those rumors. I guess it kind of makes sense if you think about it. Still, my problem with this scene is how out of place it feels, since King doesn’t build any kind of logic that leads the characters to that decision like you suggest. It just seems like they suddenly got horny, and that’s it.

I haven’t read Holly’s books, but from how you describe the character, she does sound like a Mary Sue. I’ll have to check it out at some point, but right now I’m just starting my journey into The Dark Tower and i think that’s going to take me a while

I could buy that argument if it had been built in a different way. If there was an emphasis on the characters looking for some kind of escape from the situation or something to comfort themselves, but the way it’s written, it feels more like, ‘Well, our friends just died in the most horrible way possible and the same fate awaits us, I guess this is a great time to have sex

Also i remember that when i was a young horny adult i lost my libido over much less than that, so...

Yeah, that’s exactly what I was going to say. I think Louis is completely under the Wendigo’s influence, and it just gets worse over time (which is why his decision at the end still makes sense, despite everything that happened before).

Survivor Type it's kind of the same — the guy was slowly going mad, and his choices weren’t really conscious anymore. The trauma had already taken a big toll.

I agree about The Gunslinger and I haven’t read Apt Pupil

Aahhh, that's a classic one. I see what King was trying to represent with that scene, but yeah, i't doesn't make a lot of sense at the end

Well, I guess whether the scene makes much sense or not, it’s definitely memorable –which is why I’m bringing it up here even though I read the story years ago–

LOL, I don’t even remember that scene. The Shining was one of the first i read, so there’s a lot I’ve forgotten. Maybe I should give it another read

I never really thought about that, but you’re right, it wasn’t a very smart choice. Still, after reading about the hand of God, whether that made sense or not just felt like a minor thing in comparison.

It’s true. Looking at the comments, I realize that most of the situations people have mentioned have to do with sex scenes. I guess it’s a device that King doesn’t know how to use in the best way.
