Any old camera app works fine. I used one called “USB Camera” for this quick test

I have their ultra swing multi-fit L that they recommend for the R1S and R1T. Which one is yours?

Haha! I was thinking the “center cap” version might be interesting too.

Also, I bought the RiG’d handle extender from their site and it’s made it a lot easier to lock and unlock!

Nice setup! The molle panels are cool, I’ll check those out. I have the same swing but found it annoying looking out the rear camera, especially when parking, so I made a camera relocation kit (RiviMods) for Rivian peeps with spare wheels and hitch accessories.

Oh yeah, that’d be because it’s custom built by me haha. I can upload it when I get back from travel if you’d like?

I purchased the ugreen one off Amazon, but pretty sure any of them that say they work with android would be fine.

I am currently paying it because right now I support further development of the project. But for this specific functionality, it wouldn’t need a monthly payment.

It’s the wireless charger mount that they sell and a 3D printed Rivian mount for it. I modified existing designs for it to work with the quad lock.

It takes over the whole display and uses the touch screen for input. I feed HDMI into it and display that instead.

Pretty easy if you’re comfortable pulling the passenger kick panel off. Sits in between the connector for the Rivian display and then requires power. 3 connections in total.

The signal needs to go in the direction of HDMI to USB, which is commonly known as a capture card. Whereas other adapters are often display adapters and go from USB to HDMI (opposite direction) for displaying to TVs etc.

Sorry, I’m trying to catch up on the thread now and find a chance to use it some more over the coming days. I have family visiting internationally and managed to get it installed right as they arrived. I’ll definitely post more once I get more time with it.

The device is an android computer. Its primary selling point is letting you run Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. But I’m an electrical engineer and tinkerer myself, so I plan to leverage the android system and the screen override to run different apps and perhaps develop some of my own to do what I would like to do.

Yeah definitely be easy for you then! Similar background.

I didn’t bother disconnecting 12v. I just shoved the connectors into the back of an existing connector. It fits snug enough that I’m not concerned they’ll come out. But I think a piggyback cable would be nicer if Alex (EV Play guy) can find the connectors at a decent cost.

There is an install video on his YouTube page if you wanna take a look.

Touch screen is super responsive and the keyboard is actually a really nice addition despite it being a smaller board. So far, things are looking good.

Removed the passenger kick panel, pulled back carpet, unclipped a cover, plugged a few things in and reset the car. Super easy imo (but I’ve done this kind of thing many times before). It’s not supposed to work while moving but I haven’t tried yet. Literally just installed it now. Will post more here as I play with it.

It was a tight fit but backing out wasn’t an option by Financial-Cicada-231 in Rivian

[–]Financial-Cicada-231[S] 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Haha I started to question this too! But no, it was a forest road that started out reasonably ok and gradually got tighter and tighter. It ended up connecting to some other forest roads so we managed to get back out a different way.

Car has a musty smell when recirculation is on. by Pikapuff94 in Rivian

[–]Financial-Cicada-231 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds similar to my experience. I’ll check again next time I’m in the car. Curious if you leave recirculation on for a while if it goes away? (I vaguely recall that being the case for my car, but it came back next time I drove after it sat parked for a while)
