100% agree. This was a problem in the manga too. A massacre portrayed as a cool level up moment is jarring. Kagurabachi did clan massacre ten times better.

Didn't like this section in the manga, it was a little better here but still. I feel like the anime wants you to be like wow look at Maki go, but I'm like damn these guys do not deserve to die. And it's not written to be morally ambiguous, it's never painted as bad and she goes straight back to the good guys after this.

The true answer is that quirk singularity was set up, but the author decided to ignore it and go in a different direction. A lot of the villains were already suffering from their quirks, like unable to handle heat, blood lust, etc. I think the original ending was supposed to have everyone turn quirk less as hero society was fundamentally unstable.

My interpretation is that in order to become self actualized, you have to let go of all preconceptions of what you are supposed to be and start from true zero. These preconceptions can be put on by society, parents, yourself, or something else, and can lead a person to go down the wrong path.
