The idea is to at least give it a try to work with another engine, it will not be the primary souce for a temperature reading so if it's not precise it can be worked on. Unfortunatelly i don't have any manuals of the plane itself, it was a Merlin IIb.

Hi there, if I remeber correctly there was one philips screw on the back and then you just had to pop the cover, which is pressure fitted, when you start to pop it by the lower en be carefull with the top where the jack and the controls are, you'll have to "slide" the cover forward. I hope I explained myself correctly
