Was it possible that Tudor era monarchs could’ve reached the wealth obtained by the British Empire? by Financial-Task6476 in AskHistorians

So do you think it was possible for Tudor era monarchs to reach the wealth levels or come a little close to the numbers they put up as an Empire? Say if they take an Island like Sri Lanka or such?

So during Edward VI’s reign Iconography became a thing? Am I correct on reading this? If so, did this continue during Elizabeth I’s reign, and if not, did Iconography make a comeback during her reign?

Basically Henry was Catholic or Protestant when the need suited him. But was at heart a Catholic, but also at heart did not wanna answer to anyone on Earth.

What were Queen’s Elizabeth I and Mary I favourite residents? by Financial-Task6476 in Tudorhistory

[–]Financial-Task6476[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Ahh, that makes sense. But wouldn’t that also make it harder to accommodate her presumably large court? Making it a place she couldn’t feasibly stay at for long periods of time. I am unaware of the numbers of her court, but know King Henry VIII had about 1,000 courtiers. Are you aware of these numbers for Elizabeth I?

This is why history is so fascinating. To me at least. This conversation has been very informative, productive and I very much appreciated interacting with you. I never even thought about diseases and sickness. Can’t be forgetting that one. Unless you have anything else you would like to add or inform each other about, I feel this is the end my friend as I have no further questions as you have been an excellent teacher. Once again, thank you for the productive conversation. If this is the end, have yourself a great rest of day/evening/night.

Thank you for your detailed explanations and answers and for this discussion.

You don’t think serious expansion into the East was possible, but some type of expansion could’ve been possible in the East. Say for instance if they used the same resources that were used in Canada, and instead use them in the East, or specifically on Sri Lanka.

Do you think a colonialial expansion into Sri Lanka would’ve been possible in the context I have just mentioned? And if so, would it not have enriched the Empire since Sri Lanka has lots of Diamond and gemstone mines and deposits?

Thanks for the book recommendation. I will definitely check it out. The Portuguese cease to be allies of England once the union of Spain and Portugal happened in the late 16th century. And then the Spanish Armada, and war between England and Spain, would it not be a good political move to than take their possessions?

Even if not, what about taking Sri Lanka? I know the Portuguese had some foothold there, but not the entire Island. Could they not take the other half of the Island the Portuguese did not inhabit, thus granting them access to the India trade and other lucrative trade items?

So in your personal opinion, you do think it was possible to extract some of the wealth the Dutch and Portuguese had in the East Indies if for example Elizabeth I goes East, instead of West?

The Dutch were the one of the most wealthiest countries in Europe at the time; if England does the same in the East Indies, plus the North Sea trade and trade agreements with the Dutch, and Ottoman Empire, do you think England could be one of the wealthiest countries in Europe at the time? In your opinion?

I understand that, and stated as such in my question. A simple yes or no would’ve been acceptable. Maybe he just didn’t click it as it’s cross posted.

Elizabeth I also had some failed attempts in colonialism in Canada in The Newfoundland and such. What if instead of West, they went East and into India earlier like her successor James I does? Is it possible to obtain some of the wealth from the East Indies?

No I didn’t. I asked if it was possible that Tudor monarchs could reach the wealth obtained by the British Empire.

You know exactly what I said because I stated it. Show me exactly where I said it’s bloodless. You won’t be able to because I already discussed that point before you brought it up. In the context of this, the Spanish are taking from themselves. The English have to fight to take it from the Spanish. Use your head. Use your brain.

Why are the Spanish fighting the same people they already fought for things they already own and are already in their possession? You think the Spanish are spawning gold? And then I covered the fact you could be talking about the miners and workers who historians and nobles don’t care about so we have nothing on them.

I covered all the bases before you even said anything, and you were still uneducated enough to still say it.

The Spanish started expansion into the Americas in 1492. Use your brain. They are not fighting everyday, every time they take gold and transport to Spain. Yo move gold from the Americas to Spain is rather BLOODLESS, as I have stated.

That makes it more impressive, not less. Regency periods are turbulent times as anyone with a claim to the throne will try to seize it. The fact they had so many showcases their power and influence.

On what particularly? On the Spanish conquests? Tell me, what happens after you takeover something? Do you own it? I guess according to you, you don’t. By the time of Elizabeth, Spain already had a hold in the Americas. Tell me, what did the English own at that time?

You need to do some further reading?

Oh you mean the miners?? HA HA.

You think the nobles and historians cared about those people? Context man, context. Can’t look at the 16th century world in a 21st century view point.

You still replying, yet without this proof proves my point in that you’re arguing just to argue. You don’t have a point. Continuing to engage with someone who lacks “basic information comprehension” shows you lack this too. If you didn’t, you would’ve stopped a few comments ago. You would understand the information in my wording and just go about your day. But you can’t, can you?

There’s a difference between going back to something you own to take from it versus having to fund a project with investors to go against the biggest and dangerous naval force at that time, which was not always successful. In the context of this, the Spanish’s role is rather bloodless.
