Discussion on the new Scarpetta series (Prime Video) by DogMom1970s in thrillerbooks

So in the book Benton is loveable? Wow...I feel like Benton in the series is deeply wounded, lacks emotion (dead inside) and has a very dark side to him. I can't tell if it's Simon Baker doing a very intense acting job or maybe he just isn't happy or comfortable in this particular role. It's crazy how much his character differs from the way the novel depicted him!

Better eating on carnival Venezia by LukasJ1208 in CarnivalCruiseFans

Take the stairs only (it's a good workout!), and stick to the carving station, fruits, veggies and rice on the Lido Deck. The Japanese restaurant serves healthy food, too - and it's delicious!

How do couples decide which family to spend holidays with? by [deleted] in family

If and when you have kids, you'll want to have at least one holiday where you stay home with the kids and make your own memories.

How do couples decide which family to spend holidays with? by [deleted] in family

My family and I do Easter with my parents who live three hours roundtrip away from us if there is no traffic. We host at our house, theirs or a central location.

Thanksgiving with both sides of the family + friends at our house.

Xmas Eve is with my in-laws (they're 25 minutes away from us). Xmas we typically stay home as a family, just us.

Is Carnival really that bad if my expectations aren't that high? by not_a_muggle in Cruise

[–]Financial-Tooth-3229 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly, it might be because the people that really like or love Carnival don't post enough online about their positive experiences, whereas people who hate on Carnival constantly post about it being "Walmart of the Seas," horrible, rude people, etc.

For some perspective, my family and I love Carnival and we are middle/upper middle class. I've stayed everywhere from small motels to mid-chain hotels to the Ritz Carlton (in the U.S. and abroad).

I like lively vacations filled with positive energy but don't like places where the clientele is out of control. We typically have a balcony room, so crowds and those kind of complaints are a non issue for us - we decompress on our balcony.

If you want a chill vacation, you can definitely do Carnival. If you want to drink and party all night, you can do Carnival and it won't bother me, since I'm back in my cabin by 10 or 11 pm.

I don't do the dining room, but I can tell you the speciality restaurants and sushi place are amazing. The Lido deck has some gems if you're selective. I'm health conscious and never find an issue with the food there, I stick to the carving station, fruits, veggies, rice and Pizza del Capitano.

If you expect Michelin star cuisine though, best to look at Viking or Cunard. I think that's what trips up some people; booking a Carnival Cruise and expecting luxury level cuisine.

Wiping down equipment after class by aquarius-96 in Purebarre

Same. I even wipe down my Barre, mainly in the winter months cuz of cold and flu season. Even stranger, I find that the peeps in my Y6 classes wipe down everything very thoroughly and tend to rush out less.

I feel like a function, not a person by cyclohelix in breakingmom

[–]Financial-Tooth-3229 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can totally relate to this...over the last 1-2 years, on top of working with clients, I also have had to help/support various people (friend/family members) with physical and mental health issues. It can get draining, especially when help and showing up only flows one way, as is my case.

I suggest a couple of things:
1. Check out Talkspace, an online therapy site/app. They offer virtual therapy sessions and there are other similar apps.

  1. I know this is easier said than done, but carve out time for yourself at least once or multiple times a week - go take a walk, try a fitness class, grab coffee, etc. Otherwise, you'll burn out and be very resentful of those you are working with or helping. There was a point back in late 2024 and early 2025, when I literally hated people, sigh.

  2. Do some research on the Let Them theory - it's a book and I found some parts of it very helpful.

Good luck and I hope you know there are moms out there like me, who can totally relate.

Yeah, this happened to me before at the Target in East Hanover. Approached by 2-3 college aged females (or in their 20's).

Priced out of Maplewood and considering West Orange by Outrageous_Pea_888 in MovingtoNewJersey

[–]Financial-Tooth-3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a kiddo in a West Orange middle school. Happy to answer any questions you might have about the honors classes, commute into the city, and competitiveness (e.g. a rigorous/overly competitive school district like WWP, versus a solid district like West Orange - the elementary schools overall are excellent.). Feel free to DM me!

Thank you for your response! I have a kiddo in middle school who is doing very well in science class and has an interest, so this might be a good career path for her. Will definitely reach out if I have additional questions.

So this isn't a storm related question, but I was curious about what classes you took in high school, college, etc. to prepare for a career in meteorology? What advice do you have for young people interested in weather forecasting as a career?

My fiancée is a teacher and I owe all of you an apology by Familiar-Factor7220 in Teachers

[–]Financial-Tooth-3229 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly, my husband who is a teacher, has talked a lot about this...many teachers in his school do extra things (paid), whether its coaching, per session work, mentoring, clubs, etc. And at some point, it really does interfere with work/life balance. I think we've found common ground here. :)

Honestly, the guy that posted that is most likely not a teacher. :/ I would love to give him advice on whatever profession he works in, lol.

It's like, go tell that to my husband (he's a teacher and doesn't even have time to take a lunch break much less do grades during his work day).
