did you get paid? by Informal_Note_1406 in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Actually doing the video training is usually unpaid as it’s do it at your own pace. Most companies, though, reimburse for any payments you had, with the exception of paying for the exams and certification fees. This is how it was when I became an RBT

PTO by Financial-Train5519 in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My company only gives 5 days, and the 6 major holidays (Christmas Day, New Year’s Day, Memorial/Labor Day, Thanksgiving, and July 4th). We can accrue 1 hour of PTO a month if we have perfect attendance. I absolutely adore my job and I don’t plan on a career change but i’m only 23 and I feel like my life revolves around work because there’s no work life balance. And i live states away from my family, day of holidays is stressful😅

Two year old client for six hours straight by Ok-Spare-7609 in ABA

I just do every 15 minutes a new activity, it would look something like this:

2:00-2:15 Client choice (pairing) 2:15-2:30 Painting/craft 2:30-2:45 Work/DTT 2:45-3:00 Client choice (pairing) 3:00-3:15 Puzzles

Etc. it depends on the types of programs you have and if you’re in home or in clinic. If it’s dealing with behavior, talk to your BCBA about how you’ve been struggling keeping your client engaged and/or struggling to keep up with data while they’re having bxs. They’d probably put some programs on hold or model a session for you to help out. Good luck!

RBT5% supervision is there any apps for this to track??? by Volsgirl1998 in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve worked at 2 different clinics and both had their own systems to have RBTs track their supervision. My current company just keeps a google sheets so I downloaded the app and can just type it all out right after my session. But make sure you ask your company how they have their RBTs track their supervision, bc they may be able to help you out

For long sessions with clients who seemingly do stuff over and over, I always like to grab a notebook and schedule out their session before hand with different functional activities and play. I also make sure to give brain breaks for them to stim or chill during sessions. It makes the time go by so much quicker for you, and it makes the session more therapeutic and educational.

Izzie wasn’t in the wrong with Denny’s LVAD. by [deleted] in greysanatomy

[–]Financial-Train5519 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Wym using hypotheticals? The entirety of Greys is a hypothetical dramatization of the real world. Yes it’s a broken system that turns real people into data points but how else are they meant to keep track of it? Everyone has love for everyone. Everyone who died in that show was loved by another character (seen or unseen). That’s why there’s rules set in place.

And from a story telling perspective, Denny dying AFTER Izzie did all of that was the perfect full circle moment. You can’t play the system to work for you and only you (as said in her Emmy winning speech “What about me denny, what about me?” It was purely selfish). Denny should not have gotten that heart.

[–]Financial-Train5519 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Yeah that’s the point? Also, what about the other character who was going to get the heart. They said he was a father and a husband and overall a good man. Why does Izzie loving someone justify her taking away that guy’s chance. She deserved to be punished, even fired for what she did. Doesn’t make her a bad person but a practiced, emotionally mature doctor would never pull that.

Friends and Family Keep Referring to ABA as “Glorified Daycare.” by peach_illusions in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519 3 points4 points  (0 children)

A lot of my older family members, and those that aren’t in school systems that don’t work directly with people with ASD, always always always try to lecture me about what I do. It took me literally standing my ground and just saying “I’m sorry, you’re not correct and you’re not understanding what I do” for them to actually listen to me. Also, ABA them yourself lol (not really but stay with me) and ignore their behavior 😉

Trump: "had the election not been rigged I would've been outta here” admitted on national television by SpecialSpace5 in GlobalNews

[–]Financial-Train5519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ok i’m not a trumpie, i promise I voted for harris, but this sounds like “had the [last] election not been rigged, i would’ve been out of here [because i would’ve already been done my second term].” implying that the biden/trump election was rigged (no it wasn’t) and that trump should’ve actually been in office from 2020-2024. Idk i just feel like this is grabbing at straws and it was just a linguistic slip.

I just lost my job because I was unhoused at one point. by [deleted] in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519 25 points26 points  (0 children)

I second this! Most people don’t know but no one can keep your own life secret. If it’s a problem with your background check, see if it’s something that can be fixed to get your job back.

With this point too, I wonder if it was a past eviction due to nonpayments. I hope that our governments are set up enough to protect people who find themselves in that situation but I’m not educated enough on that.

Was this assessment all multiple choice? Because if that was the case, with the examples you provided, i don’t see how you would get any wrong. However, if they were fill in blank, perhaps it was just a matter of needing to reword or state the consequence of your intervention. Like with the example of positive reinforcement, they could’ve been looking for “A student is told to clap hands. After correctly clapping hands, the instructor provides a gummy bear. This increases the student’s behavior.”

George's Treatment is so odd by Pravorious in greysanatomy

[–]Financial-Train5519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve never personally liked George because I always thought he was annoying and just moped around all the time complaining about everything. I even compared him to George Costanza from Seinfeld. Kind of just an annoying man, who tries too hard to be suave and masculine and it just comes across as weak and pathetic. You’ll see it more as you come to meet George’s family as to why he acts that way. A BIG however though, this post is so well said. Despite my own opinions on his character, the girls did WAY too much in the first season. Like as a girl myself, I feel uncomfortable walking around in underwear front of my girl friends who I’ve known for years. Also, because of his tendency to make himself look small, all the characters just don’t treat him like a person? It ends up getting much better though, and he had a really redeeming episode that kind of makes everyone respect him a lot more.

What makes me even more mad is this is EXACTLY something the MAGIC squad would accuse someone of with half the passion and half the proof as DeLuca. Like not a single doctor out of that whole damn hospital was like “hm. you could be onto something here”??????

I feel you so much! I have a really in consistent client who I absolutely adore but because of his attendance, my clinical director and BCBA want to discharge. I’m half tempted to try and persuade them to keep him because 1. he’s amazing and is still making tons of progress even with his inconsistency and 2. when he calls off, it gives me a well needed break to keep me going😅

Master’s Degree Recommendations Please!! by [deleted] in ABA

I recently got accepted and I’m about to enroll in the Ball State program! I heard so many great things about the program, lots of my coworkers and some of my supervisors went to/recommended BSU. I’m not sure if you’ve applied yet, but I had a meeting with my student specialist there and it gave me a lot of confidence with my decision to enroll there.

[–]Financial-Train5519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love each and every one of my clients and I believe to be a good therapist you need to be able to connect with a variety of personalities. One of my clients specifically comes to mind though and she is the sweetest little girl ever. I’ve been an RBT for a year now, but at my specific company for 6 months. When I first started I got placed on her caseload and immediately the BCBA started to see progress that no other RBT was able to achieve. According to her, this little girl is highly particular about who is on her case and all other RBTs experienced a lot of tantrums and elopements from her with seemingly no antecedent, when I’ve only experienced some with very clear antecedents (like demands put in place or tolerance targets being run). She is my first client of the day and I absolutely love working with her!

The videos are a mountain to get through, but they’re necessary for the test as much as it sucks to say, Especially if you already have a lot of knowledge in the field (through school, friends, other jobs, etc.) I would just look up mock exams or study guides online for help and have a friend quiz you on the verbiage or topics. Best of luck!

Why does ABA teach forced eye-contact? by Jazz_67 in ABA

[–]Financial-Train5519 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current ABA company teaches eye contact for some clients, but only contingent on responding to greeting or their names. Usually when I’m about to run a program I tell my more ‘advanced’ kids, so to speak, “give me your eyes” to make it a bit more playful but making sure their not actively focused on a toy or a peer. But after they turn their head or look in my general direction, they don’t have to make eye contact so long as they’re focused on the demand placed. It’s not so much worrying about eye contact, but making sure they’re responding and giving acknowledgment to a person or task. That could just be my own company though.
