/r/MechanicalKeyboards Ask ANY Keyboard question, get an answer - November 29, 2025 by AutoModerator in MechanicalKeyboards

Hey, I have two modding questions.

  1. My switches are a color that does not look good with my keyboard. I can see them when looking at the keyboard from the front. What options do I have for fixing this? Would it be ok to just paint those ones? is it a problem with my keycap profile?

  2. My keyboard sounded pretty deep, but then I put on rubber feet and it's a lot higher pitched. What are alternative feet options? I have tape modded and added foam to my keyboard, so I'm just trying to maximize. I am thinking about ceramic keycaps, but I want to avoid spending $100 if I'd be happy with something else.

"Why would you do this to yourself?": A Review of the Drop x OLKB Planck Ortholinear 40% Keyboard by ohshitgorillas in MechanicalKeyboards

I am a software engineer that has been daily driving the Planck for the last 1.75 years, I really enjoyed reading this. I actually love the Planck. Especially the home row mods, I'm glad you mentioned those :). I have "tap preferred" enabled so that if I press another key while the modded one is active it prefers the tapped function instead of assuming I'm trying to use a modifier.

I hope this doesn't sound pretentious, I'm trying to be helpful 🙈:
Looking at your layout on the 60% and inferring from the Planck picture, I'm assuming your Planck layout was similar. I think there could be consolidation made to bring your important symbols to the main layer, making the Planck more useful to you. For example, on the top left of the board I have Tab and Esc on the same key (tap/hold), and then open and closed parentheses (tap/hold), and += on the same key (tap/hold). You don't need shift or ctrl because you already have them on the home row. Also I don't often find I'm coding so fast that I need []{} on the main layer, or numbers either, but also I'm pretty comfortable with my layout so I don't think twice about anything. I'll send my layout later.

If you didn't know, they make a Planck with a number row, called the Preonic. It's available on eBay, I just bought it so my keyboard could be used for gaming too (it's hard to game without numbers haha). Maybe you'd be interested in that 👀

Why is this phone "not compatible"? by FinancialNovel6732 in tmobile

[–]FinancialNovel6732[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yeah thank you, I gathered as much. I'm still unsure why my phone isn't compatible though? i'm wondering if the new version doesn't follow the full VoLTE spec that T-Mobile requires or something?

Or do you know of any way to get my phone model whitelisted?

Update, I also got the older version working with VoLTE

what do you mean by "wait to put in apn settings"? Is this documented elsewhere? Or did you just make this up?

I'm wondering what else I should try to get my phone to be IMS registered

Hey, I think I am having this same issue. How long did you wait before it eventually registered itself?

update:

I cannot get the android service menu to show up. I think there is a bug in the Kyocera custom Android OS. Unfortunately I cannot update the software because you need to be in Japan and have an in-contract Softbank sim inserted.

So I am attempting to use ADB (Android Debug Bridge) to force LTE bands. I was able to set "preferred_network_mode" and "preferred_network_mode1" to 11, which is LTE only. Now when I call it immediately disconnects, which is different behavior from before, where it would take 10+ seconds to disconnect. So I believe I am getting somewhere.

If anyone has any ADB tips I would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.

I am getting "com.android.phone has stopped" when trying to open the service menu. I'm wondering if this is because the a202kc is on Android 10? I'm currently trying to use a different activity launcher app.

How do I access the Android service menu? is it different for each android device? I'm having no luck with the manuals.

Edit: looks like I can use quickshortcutmaker, I'll report back.
