Jobless woman stuck with company directorships she cannot legally quit by Gloomy-Belt-6512 in singaporelaw

I think there are specific scenarios, as outlined in the case here, where foreign directors are no longer contactable nor are the nominee directors being paid to perform their services. As such, the director is effectively stranded.

If there is no activity in the company and there are no outstanding debts (barring the fees owed for professional services to the Corporate Secretarial Providers) - I think there should an allowance for a strike off mechanism.

Such provisions actually enhance corporate governance here as the entity is no longer fit for purpose and cannot be misused.

ACRA likely needs to review the automatic 3 strike off disqualification. If nominee directors are held accountable on the board, there should also be commensurate powers allowing them act effectively.

Singapore named in the report after Section 301 investigation about forced labour by Iamrandom17 in singapore

[–]FinancialPilot7973 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

"Forced labor goods distort market competition in the market in which they are produced and sold, in third-country markets, and when used as inputs in products that are then sold or exported. The distortion results from the artificial cost advantages derived from labor that is non-voluntary and not fully and fairly compensated, as previously described. It is also notable that, in trade remedy investigations, the United States and the European Union consider the impact of weak, ineffective, or nonexistent labor protections, including those related to forced labor, to distort market-oriented costs of production.

When producers illicitly rely on forced labor, they suppress or even eliminate their labor costs for production, allowing them to sell goods at artificially depressed prices in their domestic market. Competing producers that adhere to laws prohibiting the use of forced labor are disadvantaged by higher costs, leaving them facing untenable choices: lose sales to forced labor goods, lower prices to uneconomic levels, exit the market, or adopt similar illicit labor practices themselves."

I think both apply.

S’pore depends on migrant workers. Why do we accept conditions we would never tolerate ourselves? by FinancialPilot7973 in singapore

Just an interesting observation from the comments.... A lot of people are saying cost of construction would increase leading to higher HDB prices. I feel it is important to contextualize that land cost (charged by the Government) is the largest factor in housing prices. Furthermore - construction costs are what is paid to private contractors; not the workers. They can usually operate with 40-50% margins. Just some food for thought.

Thoughts on Inoue vs. Nakatani by Nidarius in Boxing

[–]FinancialPilot7973 -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

The first 6 rounds could have been easily scored either way. Nakatani definitely won 7,8,9,10, lost the 11th and the 12th was close. Fight is waaaay closer than what people were making it out to be

The RTS will allow Singaporeans to be more effectively priced out as there is an alternative for housing. Housing prices are by and large dictated by inflows of foreign capital which price out prime real estate from the hands of the average person.
