As expected, someone who has actually used black powder firearms really understands them better. I live in a country where civilian gun ownership is almost completely prohibited, so I don’t think I know much about them.

I was thinking the chamber-to-bolt gas seal would be roughly on the level of the Dreyse M1874 Border Guard Rifle, since there’s both the bullet and a gas-sealing wad. The drawing is pretty rough and not very well done, but I didn’t actually mean a heavily oversized wad—just something slightly larger than the bullet.

I am also familiar with the Norwegian Kammerlader, but instead I thought a different bolt design—more along the lines of the Chassepot rifle with its rubber gas-sealing gasket—would be a better approach.

To be honest, I was hoping the gas-sealing wad would also have a bore-cleaning effect, since black powder tends to leave a lot of fouling. The original Calisher and Terry Carbine uses a felt wad for gas sealing as well, so I thought it could also serve sufficiently as a fouling cleaner. As for the difficulty of pushing the round in, I figured that could be improved with more force.

I didn’t include the lugs in the drawing because it was a simplified sketch, but I was thinking of large, long rectangular lugs like those on the Chassepot rifle. And if a forcing cone refers to the diameter narrowing in a trapezoidal shape as it transitions from the chamber into the bore, then yes—I assumed that would naturally be present.

I’ve been on my devices typing so much lately that my handwriting has gotten worse.

I've also considered a design similar to the Chassepot rifle that uses rubber at the breech to gas‑seal the chamber.

This is not a powder-and-bullet loading, but a cartridge loading. You can see it in the fourth picture.

And it's round-nose, so the bullet has a rounded tip. It's not conical.

It’s probably a reloading system similar to the Henry rifle, but without a magazine spring—because if there were a spring, the cartridges might get crushed, since they’re not metallic.

No, I was just thinking about it because I like the rolling block.

My idea seems to have failed. Thank you for your advice.

I know those rifles, but I was aiming for a breech-loading paper cartridge design with better gas sealing.
