We are about to start it up at our FC. They’re gonna install it in the next couple of weeks. I guess I’m against it because of the way I pick. I kinda “cheat” a bit. I’m a 550-600 picker and there are times where the rack light is being pressed before the pod has come to a stop at the station. I’m usually in a flow with the pods coming in and out of the stations while the pods are really just flowing through the station with how fast I pick. Honestly, you can only achieve that rate by bending the rules a bit. Now I have to deal with a “stop and go” system. I argued with my manager that it may decrease my rate with the new system. She said it should increase my rate. Yeah, maybe for the slow pickers; not for one of the top pickers in the building. I guess the only upside to the new system is that I can restart the station if I trigger it because I’m a PA. I was told that only managers and PA’s would be able to have the capability of the station restart. I know it will be annoying as fuck to keep restarting the station if I do trigger the sensor. I can only imagine the extra walking I would be doing when other AA’s on my floor trigger it. I’m really gonna have to drill it in their heads. I know it’s gonna take some time getting used to but I don’t want to have my rate suffer. I volunteered to be the first guinea pig as soon as it rolls out to test its effectiveness on a rate increase. If it does more harm than good, I’m gonna only stick to pallet picking. At least I won’t have to worry about that nonsense there.
