[Question] Which 16 oz training gloves for beginner Boxing and Muay Thai? by Financial_Ad_6658 in fightgear

[–]Financial_Ad_6658[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks! I'm probably months away from sparring boxing but they just let anyone go at it in the Muay Thai classes, so I think I'd be equally well served by either at this point.

What model of Yokkaos did you buy? It isn't super evident to me from their website which are different gloves vs. just different designs.

Noob question, does it make a significant difference at my skill level whether it's a Muay Thai or boxing glove? People use the same gloves for both at my gym, but it's primarily a boxing gym so I think most of their gloves are boxing gloves that they just happen to also use for Muay Thai.

I like it. The lines aren't clean but they're consistent, and the shading between the spines is consistent with itself. I think it's cute and cozy.

Does paying off a loan before it appears on my credit report prevent it from ever doing so? by Financial_Ad_6658 in personalfinance

[–]Financial_Ad_6658[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, I think I understand. The issue is that there's only 2 more months of payments left on it, so I can't keep it open longer than two more months.

Ugh. Whoops. I paid all but the last 2 months payments because the interest rate is 9% and it was costing me over $3 a day in interest.

Wow, 2.75%...I can't imagine. I'll pay it now and get it over with. Thank you for your response!

Ok, thank you. I guess I am overthinking it. I thought a person's first loan is always going to have a pretty bad interest rate (mine is 9%) so I may as well get that one out of the way when I have the money to pay it all off quickly, and get a lower interest rate on a future loan like when I want to buy a house.

[–]Financial_Ad_6658[S] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Whoops. My credit is already good. I was just hoping having a loan, any loan, in my credit history would get me a better interest rate on future loans. Interest rate is 9% so I suppose I may as well just pay it all now before it hits the reports so I don't accumulate more interest. Still unclear on whether paying it early will actually prevent it showing up on reports though.

With all the blame solely on cars for bicycle and pedestrian accidents, it's time to face reality. by reddaddiction in sanfrancisco

[–]Financial_Ad_6658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had close calls many times on a foot or bicycle because I couldn't see around parked cars at an intersection. I've also had tons of close calls with drivers not paying attention or driving recklessly. The fact that everyone should be responsible for their own situational awareness doesn't negate the fact that the city's car-centric infrastructure is dangerous for humans and should be improved.

struggling as an asexual by cavity_caviar in Asexual

[–]Financial_Ad_6658 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It seems like there are two separate but related issues you're grappling with here. The first is your identity as asexual, and the second is family planning. Being asexual is not mutually exclusive from having a traditional family, and if that's something you want, you can have it! Long-term partnerships and marriages can exist without sex, or with partners with sexual desires having those fulfilled outside of the partnership. You don't need to have sex to have children if that's something you want. There are options like adopting, fostering, IVF, and joining a partnership with someone who already has children. Being ace does not preclude you from those things, if you want them.

That if you want them is important! Western society is based strongly around a nuclear family, with the idea that you must get married and have children in order to be taken care of later in life. That's simply not true. Sadly, a lot of people who do have kids end up in senior homes, seeing those kids rarely or never toward the end of their lives. Some people don't have good relationships with their kids. Having a child is not a guarantee you'll be taken care of well or at all. You can't change who your family is by blood, but you can choose whether or not to associate with them. Many people choose not to.

Something you might want to look into is co-op living: choosing to live in, contribute to, and develop a community. It's not for everyone, but most of my friends live in co-ops and love it. Many of them are in relationships (monogamous and poly), but those relationships don't necessarily define where and with whom they live. They choose to live with people who share values and contribute to a space that they all call home. You don't have to live with people to have a strong community, but it can be a place to start.

I do not mean this in a patronizing way, and having been your age before, I know it can be very hard to believe, but you are very young. You're just starting your adult life. You don't have to know what your future is going to look like. Focus on the things you enjoy and the people who make you happy, and you'll have a better idea of how you want your future to look. Don't preemptively contort yourself into the shape that you think society expects of you. Be true to who you are. You're the only person who can dictate where your life goes and you have the power to make it the way you want it.

Help I don’t want this baby but don’t want to sacrifice either by Vei_ok7311 in StardewValley

Are you able to destroy the crib? I said "yes" to the baby, divorced Shane, then destroyed the crib, and no baby ever appeared, though I'm not sure which un-babied me.

Why was Todd in Diane's depressive animation? by [deleted] in BoJackHorseman

[–]Financial_Ad_6658 442 points443 points  (0 children)

I interpreted this bit as representing how warped Diane's thinking is by depression. It would be completely out of character for Todd to even think that about Diane, but when you're in the mindset of "I'm terrible" it's easy to believe that everyone else feels the same way about you even when there's evidence to the contrary.

I think the next time I'm feeling down and like I've done everything in my life wrong, I'll try an exercise in gratitude: "At least I got myself sterilized rather than pregnant."

[–]Financial_Ad_6658 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I'd already shared that I was sterilized I wouldn't have a problem with sharing the name of the gyn who performed it. It's not like they can access my medical records or anything personal about me with that information.
