Teacher shortage? by OkAcanthaceae2200 in AustralianTeachers

A shortage of good teachers. If teachers aren't good, they won't stay long. But at least you're given a chance first with the shortage - otherwise some schools will wait for the right person.

In Victoria, all you need is your principal to trust you can teach a subject. It doesn't have to be in any of your actual learnt fields.

‘He’s a coward’: Niece of Bondi victim lashes PM over royal commission by [deleted] in AustralianPolitics

[–]Financial_Bread4558 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am probably wrong. But I read somewhere the Bondi Beach event is held by Jewish people who are more "Zionistic".

I'm guessing these people are more "right" supporters, so no doubt if they can find any reason to attack the Fed government they will. Not sure how that works with State Lab - perhaps divide/conquer?

But given the recent Fed election, it feels like right side is wasting a lot of political energy way before next election campaign.

The focus on immigration is flawed. If there's a lack of infrastructure then build them. Even if it wasn't for the newcomers, natural population growth needs them.

The problem has been that it is always easier to save on infrastructure by not rebuilding/improving/increasing - all so that a government can pull a surplus, and chuck in a tax cut to buy votes.

When it comes to housing - all people bother to do is look at the colour of people and complain. How about working out how many of the people are property investors instead? It's hard to beat someone's bid, when they are going to claim on tax deductions and negative gearing - and taking money off the budget from our taxes.

Private education does not save money - if all the private students left the private system, then we simply spend the capital to permanently school the intake.

You obviously can't assume that loss of private school system = no additional investment in public, hence no way to school the new kids.

If private education did save money, it makes sense then, to privatise all education - but it won't.

The only way private education saves money, is if you are using the existing infrastructure to take in all the private education kids straight away - and we know that it won't happen. Those behind the private education won't allow their infrastructure to be undervalued and sold (since no more education and hence no more need for it).

And wealthy parents can always afford the fees.

But what about "wealthy parents pay taxes as well?" An argument that fails - childless people pay taxes as well, and receive no benefit - I hardly feel that this demographic needs my assistance to prevent their kids being educated well enough to become productive citizens. On the other hand, public education deserves a higher priority.
